AQUAMAN Star Dolph Lundgren Anticipates Shooting The Sequel This Summer For A 2022 Release

Aquaman proved to be a $1.1 billion hit back in 2018, so the sequel is a priority for Warner Bros. Now, star Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus) has shared an update on what exactly he knows about Aquaman 2...

Aquaman brought a lot of new characters into the DC Extended Universe, and the colourful, lighter tone of James Wan's first superhero movie struck a chord with fans in a big way. Throw in a terrific lead in Jason Momoa, and it's easy to see why there's so much excitement for the upcoming sequel.

During a recent Wizard World appearance (via ComicBook.com), Dolph Lundgren - who played Mera's father King Nereus in the first movie - shared an update on Aquaman 2

"I may be doing Aquaman 2 this summer, shooting in London," the legendary action star confirmed. "And that's coming out the following year in the theaters, they hope."

This is all likely to be COVID-dependant, but it definitely bodes well for the DC Comics sequel that Warner Bros. wants to get cameras rolling ASAP. As of now, the release date is still December 16th, 2022.

Despite struggling with being stuck in a harness for those underwater scenes, Lundgren added that he was excited to play a character who is, "like a political figure, a king who is talking more about politics and trying to keep the peace instead of kicking ass [Laughs]. I was very pleased James Wan hired me for that, and that was a great experience."

Time will tell whether Aquaman 2 is, in fact, able to start shooting later this year, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II recently shared the following video showing how he's "prepping" for the sequel...

The first one isn’t even a guilty pleasure, I just balls to the wall enjoyed it. The film and it’s beautiful effects and corny comic book cheese was just one big massive [frick] you to Snyder and the dull toned universe he tried so hard to create.

And FYI, I don’t dislike Snyder as a filmmaker, he’s made some good flicks - but anything DC related, I won’t respect.

The first one was good, so I’m hoping this one is just as good or better.

I just woke up seconds ago and thought the thumbnail of Dolph Lundgren was Bo Katan with a beard.
