An Infinity Stone perspective on the possible plot of Avengers: Age of Ultron (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

A prediction of the Avengers: Age of Ulton plot in respects to the Infinity Stones involved. (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Editorial Opinion
By ferg815 - Mar 24, 2015 01:03 AM EST

This is all purely personal speculation based on trailers and scoops, but read no further if you don’t wish to possibly be spoiled.

As a reader of comics I enjoy some pictures with my stories, so this article will follow that inspiration. The 2nd trailer which was released just before the TV spots concluded with an image of Vision, showcasing what appears to be the Soul Stone on his forehead.

This got me thinking that perhaps the Infinity Stones are even more prevalent in the MCU than I had been giving them credit for. I looked at the information I knew already, but with a Stone-centric perspective and things made a lot more sense to me. Let me know if you agree or not in the comments after you have a read:

I think it’s fair to assume that the snowy assault on the Hydra mountain fortress will be the “Bond-like” opening action scene we’ve been promised. I’d be willing to bet that this exact scene will bumper onto one side or the other of the opening credits.

The team will return to Avengers tower with Loki’s Scepter in tow (Mind Stone) thanks to Iron Man.

Tony and Bruce will be discussing the Ultron program to give some back story before they all go have some celebratory drinks believing that the Mind Stone is safely contained.

The Mind Stone, which could easily be considered as a “ruin of the Chitauri Invasion” would find the sentience of the Ultron program and begin to assemble itself a physical form.

If the Mind Stone is involved in the creation of Ultron, then that would give Thor good reason to be angry with Stark, claiming “you are meddling with powers that you do not understand”.

Thor realizes that he’s now encountered the Mind, Space, and Reality Stones all on Earth, and that can only mean that Thanos isn’t far behind. He’ll return to Asgard in order to find out where the Soul Gem is kept since keeping them hidden is almost pointless. This will also be the only way to defeat Ultron since the Stones can only harm each other. I believe that this scene takes place in another realm where the Soul Stone is being kept, and that someone is temporarily removing Thor’s power before he can retrieve the Stone.

This scene could involve leading Thor to the Stone, or as a flashback to the hiding of the Stone.

This would then be him retrieving it. (You're welcome, ladies)

Thor can then come save the day with the Soul Stone in tow to imbue Vision with consciousness and power enough to counter Ultron.

I’m also going to predict that there is a massive amount of machinery necessary to build Vision and connect him to the Stone, which we can see a part of in this epic scene from the trailer.

I think that Quicksilver will be either using his speed to help build Vision, or transporting the Stone to him. This explains why he isn’t in this scene, rather than Whedon having killed him off.

Thor will then return to Asgard to defend the Tesseract against Ragnarok, which I am beginning to believe Thanos will have a hand in.

Tony will view the Registration Act as a possible way to train and assemble super-powered individuals for the coming of Thanos, but Steve will believe that everyone should fight of their own desire, not under orders.

You can see how I think the Stones will connect to the Twins’ powers here: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MakemineMarvel/news/?a=108409

I still have a whole lot of questions about this movie though, not the least of which regarding what Marvel plan to do with Hulk.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed yourself. Leave comments in the usual place, thumbs up if you like, and Make Mine Marvel!

Interesting. I don't think that Vision has the soul stone, but I can't deny that you've actually gone out and made a case for it. Good work.

Nice theory.

Those these gems are [frick]ing annoying. Why does EVERY movie have to be related somehow.

Love the way this is laid out. Great theory btw, very original compared to other theories.

Great theory, but I don't want Ultron to have the soul gem because that makes him less of a real character and just a target that at some point Thanos will obviously kill.

Also, I don't remember if it has been officially confirmed that the scepter has the mind stone bu if it has then something has to happen that will change the stone color, because there's only one blue stone in the Gauntlet and that's the Tesseract

@Kong
Because they're a common link. The films would never connect without them.

@ferg815
You've read my mind with this. I was going to waitr till after AoU before I posted another theory article, but at the moment, these are my exact sentiments.

Yeah, hopefully it looks cooler in the movie.

@NovaCorpsFan

......yes they would....

The fact that the characters exist in the same universe makes them connect.

The Marvel Comics Universe connects but they aren't constantly focusing on a set of items.

And reports say that the DCCU won't have anything like the Infinity Stones in them and they'll still connect.

I honestly don't get where you were going with that point. I enjoy your very convincing editorials, but that comment was REALLY bad.

Unless you're TRYING to use internet sarcasm (which wasn't executed well).

I meant in terms of overarcing story, they wouldn't connect.

ANovaCorpsFan, I'm glad you're on board! @GliderMan, I agree with you that Thanos isn't necessary for Ragnarok but I don't think that will necessarily keep Marvel from using him. They need to show his power at some point, and I think wiping out Asgard while searching for the Tesseract in Thor, and Xandar for the Orb in Guardians 2 would do just that.

I dig this theory. Well done @ferg815

@Kong, these movies would definitely still connect without the Stones, but if you look at everything up to Infinity War Part 2 it is essentially the same as a Marvel comic event. They want these movies to tell one big story, but still have their own stories as well. The Infinity Saga is a great way to do that. I used to believe that they would slow down with the Stone macguffins and spread them out in future movies, but with fans like yourself growing tired of it, and directors not enjoying being told what to include in their movies I think they may want to have them all in play sooner than later. That's another reason for my theory.

@NovaCorpsFan

They could have something else, other than stones. The HYDRA thing will probably bleed in to Civil War, and Fiege said Civil War was going to affect at least the next SEVEN YEARS of the MCU after Cap 3, before it even got it's official title.

They definitely could've found something to tie Phase one and Phase two, which in turn would connect everything.

The Vision has always had a yellow thing on his head. It's not a stone. Just do a Google search, 'The Vision Marvel', and you'll see. Lol.

kong- the infinity stone/gems are a big part of the comics history and all serve the purpose to foreshadow(prior to avengers) and further the introduction of Thanos. it is an important part of the mad titan's interactions with the avengers. i love what they are doing there is one great story going on that eventually ends with the avengers facing off against thanos which would have been harder to achive without introducing the stone and giving the audienec some history on the stones. (and about the dc comparison does Dc have something similar to the infinity gems/stones).

Glierman- i think he will definitely have a cameo in ragnarok maybe a post credits scene where he takes the tesseract from the ruins of what was once asgard

@GliderMan, I'm not saying that I would be happy about it, but I think there is a possibility that they will alter Ragnarok to have Thanos take Surtur's place. My guess is that Loki will strike another deal with the Mad Titan and recruit some like-minded Asgardians. I could easily be way off on that, and if Dr Strange succeeds in bringing believable mystical elements into the MCU then I can see Marvel attempting to perfect Surtur.

@Christuffer, I'm aware that Vision has always had a solar cell on his forehead, but the Mandarin was never a drug-addicted British actor in the comics either. Marvel is approaching the MCU in a similar fashion to what they did with the Ultimate Universe, they aren't an extension of the existing comics universe, it is it's own universe. If Gunn doesn't want to deal with Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, then it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to have Vision carry the Stone in his forehead instead of Warlock.

Nice read. I really dont think the Soul gem will be involved. I do think that the Mind Gem will factor heavy into what happens in this movie more than anything else.

I thought from the first time we saw vision at the end of that trailer that it was an infinity stone. Until someone from marvel or if they definitely say in the movie that it's not.

Why are people so quick to say that isn't the Soul Stone in Vision's head? Because of the comics? Lol come on now, guys. Everyone here should know by now that Marvel Studios is perfectly fine with changing lore..

In the comics, the Tesseract ( Cosmic Cube) is not an Infinity Stone. The Aether is not an Infinity Stone. Hell, none of the Infinity Stones in the movies really act like they do in the comics, or share the same properties as they do in the comics. (Only someone of extreme power can touch the Power Gem without being disintegrated? No. Not like the comics at all.)

So really, why are people acting like the Soul Stone being used to give sentience to Vision is outlandish simply because in the comics its not an Infinity Stone, but a Solar Stone?

Are people really so ignorant to think that this couldn't possibly be changed? Lol
