AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Concept Art Throws Us Into The Midst Of That Epic Final Battle

Avengers: Age of Ultron featured an epic final battle, and a new piece of concept art from the immensely talented Charlie Wen throws us into the fight between Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Ultron...

Avengers: Age of Ultron was released back in 2015, and while it was undeniably overshadowed by Captain America: Civil War, it remains one of the best entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Despite being a little muddled here and there (we're still not entirely sure what Thor's vision was all about), there's no denying that the epic final fight was a memorable one. That saw Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble to battle a seemingly endless wave of Ultron's androids, and featured a stunning 360 shot as we circled the team while they blasted them apart.

Now, thanks to Marvel Studios concept artist Charlie Wen, we have a look at how that sequence was imagined during the pre-production stage. This was clearly pivotal in helping director Joss Whedon bring this scene to the big screen, and you can definitely see how it influenced what we saw.

Ultron remains on the minds of Marvel fans, but there's no indication that he will return to the MCU. If he was just a one and done baddie, though, he certainly made a lasting impact thanks to Age of Ultron.

Check out the concept art below:

I didn’t mind the 3rd act too much but I just wish that the Ultron Bots weren’t so... weak (most of the time). There wasn’t really any time I was really fearing for our heroes; they were more like things for them to punch. Wish they showed them struggle by being overwhelmed like them, like in early concept art

Just rewatched this a couple of weeks ago, IMO pretty fantastic.

Avengers is easily the GOAT saga of CBMs

Avengers
Age of Ultron
Civil War
Infinity War
Endgame

*chef's kiss*

That works so well as a single narrative, tbh.

so, Disney....we know that f*ckface Perlmutter made Whedon cut some stuff from the movie. how about, I don't know, maybe try the alternate cut thing with this one? now that is in high demand apparently.

Haphazard attempt to recapture the magic of the original, afaic. It's the most "Marvel humour" of them all. It's too preoccupied with trying to set up things for the future. Boggles my mind that people think it's great, let alone better than the first one.

The farm is a major lull. Age of Ultron is just so unaffecting.

@Nebula - I used to flip flop a lot between the first one and Ultron. in retrospect, yeah, the first one is still better. but to Ultron's credit, there are some aspects of the movie that I feel are better than the original: the cinematography is spot on, it just gets bogged down a bit by the editing. the color grading I think it's also interesting, a lot of really cold blues, striking reds, harsher shadows than most of the MCU, it's something that IW would do years later to better effects.
Spader's Ultron is a potentially really interesting take that doesn't quite reach the heights I feel it should. but I really do like his voice, his philosophy, the little touches of melancholy and sadness that, again, IW would use to greater effect later with Thanos. if anything Ultron's shortcomings were the growing pains that allowed Infinity War to be the absolute chad of a movie that it is.
