My theory on how the twins receive their powers in the MCU

POSSIBLE SPOILERS, but these are just my ideas on how Marvel will explain the twins' powers in Avengers: Age of Ultron

My ideas on how the twins have received their powers all hinge on the fact that the stones communicate with each other in the comics. They are connected in some way when they are relatively close to each other, and they call out to each other as they are collected. Using that premise for the MCU allows the Mind Stone in Loki's scepter (I know this is still debated, but I think Thanos loaned this to Loki in order to come back with two stones) to have communicated with the Tesseract during Avengers, and the Aether when it was used in London while the scepter was underground in Europe.

I believe that Baron Strucker was continuing with the Red Skull's technology of harnessing this cosmic power, and that led to the deaths of many volunteers. Only after changing the parameters of the energy siphoning was he able to succeed in granting powers to the Maximoff twins. This tapped into the 'memory' of the mind stone, and imbued them with a small portion of the power contained in the Tesseract and Aether.

Quicksilver was gifted with a limited control over Space, explaining his super speed and the familiar blue/white blur.

Even more telling is how Wanda now has limited control over Reality itself, and how her Scarlet Hex powers resemble the red light given off by the Aether itself.

I think this opens up a huge doorway for the future of the MCU as it could introduce a character akin to Professor X if they managed to tap the power of the Mind Stone itself. It could also lead to Thanos needing to kill the twins in order to wield the full power of the Infinity Gauntlet, and would have established the technology necessary to explain how the Inhumans harnessed the power of their artifact to generate the Terrigen Mists. I'm not suggesting that the Inhumans will also be born from Infinity Stones, but if the ability to 'mine' these ultimate cosmic power cells, then the ability to harness other cosmic sources is immediately believable.

Let me know what you think in the comments, and continue to Make Mine Marvel!

It's all in the wrist. Both have bandages on their wrist.

I swear it has something to do with that. But good eye on catching the colors and relating it to the stones. A+.

A little bit of a stretch but it could make sense.

It would be something like the theory of the Nova Corps creating the Nova Force with the power stone.

I personally think that the reason their wrists are bandaged is a control measure by Hydra, but you could be right @PAF.

@Bekss, I like the idea of the Nova Corps utilizing the Power Stone to form the Nova Force, but I've always had a hunch that Thanos will decimate Xandar to get the Power Stone, and that will initiate the Infinity War.

@ferg815

The both could happen. They could show Thanos destroying Xandar even with the Nova Force and only Richard Rider survives and takes all the power he can before the Nova Force is destroyed or something like that.

@ferg815

That sounds possible too.

@ Bekss

That sounds pretty awesome! I just hope Gunn gets past his hatred of the helmet and we get to see the last Nova. Rider's relationship with Quill in the Annihilation saga is too great to not include in the MCU.

My only issue with the Kree blood creating Inhumans is that it would put Coulson and Skye in line to being Inhuman as well. I do really like the idea of the Inhumans being born from similar technologies though, especially since that will deepen the potential bond between Quicksilver and Crystal. I just have no idea how to explain that with my theory that the Stones gave part of the power they were connected to to the twins.

@Scorpion8125 Thanks for the positive feedback. I agree with you almost whole heartedly, but with this much time between each movie I can't keep myself from guessing where they are taking it next. Whether I'm close to right, you are, or we're both way off, I'm sure that Whedon won't disappoint.

Excellent! thinking outside the box. What other heroes or villains can they manufacture with the stones? Any ideas?

Besides Xavier. Who that they can use?

Loki's sceptre is NOT an infinity stone according to the GOTG material. So I'm taking that as gospel until Marvel confirms otherwise.

@Ager, I'm glad you asked, because minutes after posting this article I wished I had mentioned Reed Richards instead of Professor X. I may be alone in this, but I am beyond disappointed that the Illuminati aren't able to appear in the MCU due to the property legalities.

@ferg815 Its actually possible for the Illuminati to appear. The only characters that need replacing are Professor X, Reed Richards and Beast. MS have Iron Man, Black Panther, Namor, Doctor Strange and Black Bolt. Just replace Reed with Hank Pym and Professor X with Vision or Nick Fury.

@GliderMan The art book for GOTG has a section on infinity stones, and it only mentions the tesseract, the aether, and the orb. If an official book is listing the stones and isn't mentioning Loki's staff, I'll take that as proof that it's not.

Doesn't Vision have a gem stone on his forhead?
ferg815

That line up of Illuminati would get it done for me @GliderMan. I do like the idea of Vision being included, although I'm not sure if he would put up with the questionable morality for long. Now that we're seeing more of the Obelisk in Agents of Shield, I'm betting that it will be the source of the Terrigen Mists for the Inhumans @Scorpion8125. I'm wondering if we won't also see Skye evolve into Agent Brand and start up S.W.O.R.D.
