AVENGERS: ENDGAME's Title Actually Leaked Online Way Back In June

While Marvel Studios held off on revealing the title of Avengers 4 until the trailer dropped yesterday, it turns out that we actually found out what it was called a number of months ago. Check it out...

Yesterday, the first Avengers: Endgame trailer arrived and despite Marvel's best efforts to reveal it within the teaser itself, it was trending on social media within 10 minutes!

However, despite distracting rumours pointing to the Avengers: Infinity War sequel being titled everything from Infinity Gauntlet to Annihilation, it turns out that we learned what Avengers 4 would really be called back in June. As you may recall, cinematographer Trent Opaloch put a listing on his website in which he called the movie Avengers: End Game.

At the time, most fans assumed that he was just going by online speculation (especially as the Russos claimed the title was never spoken in Infinity War) but he clearly knew more than we realised.

That's hardly a surprise as it's not like Marvel would have just decided what to call it this week!

Are you happy with the Avengers: Endgame title or do you think Marvel Studios could have done better? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on that in the comments section below.

at the biggest reveals from the first trailer!

Iron Man, No More

While Tony Stark may have invented armour which is capable of regenerating itself, it appears as if his battle with Thanos completely depleted whatever nanotech he had left as his helmet remains destroyed and his suit is nowhere to be seen.

This makes a lot of sense as it takes the hero back to where he was in Iron Man, and makes his journey home (not that it appears to be going particularly well) even more perilous because he can't just suit up to keep himself safe. Interestingly, it does look like he's healed from that nasty stab wound through his stomach by this point in time too.

Lost In Space

As many of us suspected, Iron Man has boarded the spaceship belonging to the Guardians of the Galaxy in an attempt to return home after travelling to Titan in Avengers: Infinity War

Unfortunately, as I noted above, things aren't going well for him. He's run out of food and is about to run out of oxygen too, hence why he's recording a farewell message to Pepper Potts, a message she's unlikely to ever receive. The question is, how will Tony survive being left adrift in space?

Is someone going to unexpectedly save him or has Marvel really just shown us the way Iron Man dies? I highly doubt it's the latter but it really doesn't look like he's in a good place here.

Yeah, They Went There

In what is an undeniably expert bit of trolling, the Marvel Studios logo fades to dust at the start of this trailer in the exact same manner as the heroes who perished in Avengers: Infinity War. In recent years, the studio has found a unique way to present its logo both in trailers and on the big screen, so we probably shouldn't be too surprised that they decided to head down this route here.

Thanos' Armour

We caught a glimpse of this at the end of Avengers: Infinity War but this trailer gives us our best look yet at Thanos' armour on the planet he's "retired" too after defeating Earth's Mightiest Heroes and succeeding in his plan to wipe out half the universe.

It's a haunting image and one which will be all too familiar with fans of the Infinity Gauntlet comic book. The key difference here, of course, is the fact that in that, Thanos lost. In the MCU, he won and that makes this shot all the more distressing and memorable.

The Ruins Of The Infinity Gauntlet

Eagle-eyed fans noticed at the end of Avengers: Infinity War that the Mad Titan's arm had been badly burned and scarred from unleashing the power of the Infinity Stones and while we don't get a closer look at that here, we do get to see that the Infinity Gauntlet itself remains damaged.

Now, this is hardly a big reveal because that was apparent seconds after the "Snap" occurred but it will be very interesting learning what that means for both Thanos and the Infinity Stones.

New Avengers Facility

Despite General Ross' protestations the last time they were there, the remaining members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes have holed up inside the New Avengers Facility.

Now, some fans on social media are already pointing out that the buildings look a little run down and the grass has died, something which they believe is an indication that the five-year time jump which we've heard about has indeed happened. Well, that's certainly possible but I'm betting that only a few months have passed based solely on what we see in this teaser.

Heroes In Mourning

Well, you didn't think it was going to be packed full of one-liners, did you? This is a very sombre sneak peek and Captain America, in particular, seems to be struggling with what's happened.

It's rare that we get to see Steve Rogers shed a tear but Black Widow and Bruce Banner look equally as broken down and it's clear now that Avengers: Endgame is going to be all about rebuilding Earth's Mightiest Heroes so they can stop Thanos once and for all.

"He Wiped Out 50% Of All Living Creatures"

Since Avengers: Infinity War was released, I've seen some people wondering if it was just humanity that was wiped out or plants, animals, and insects too. Well, while I can't speak for your Christmas tree, Black Widow confirms in this trailer that when Thanos snapped his fingers, 50% of the world's living creatures vanished.

That means cats and dogs were no more immune than any of us and it's something which makes sense as the Mad Titan wanted to balance the entire universe. However, with 50% fewer animals on the planet, would that not mean third-world countries continue to struggle because that particular resource is still as small?

R.I.P. Shuri

Well, damn. Those of you hoping to see Shuri on Wakanda's throne in Avengers: Endgame are going to be disappointed because this trailer confirms that she's among the dead/missing.

Also pictured are Scott Lang and Peter Parker but what the heroes don't know is that he's actually trapped within the Quantum Realm, a point we'll get to a little later in this post.

Still, there is a plus side here; T'Challa and Shuri being dead means that M'Baku can step up to become King, something I think we can all agree is going to be downright awesome to see.

The God Of Thunder Mourns

Thor has to blame himself for what happened (after all, he should have aimed for the head) and we get a taste of that in this trailer as he can be seen wearing street clothes and looking like a man who has lost everything. The thing is, he pretty much has, and while promo art has shown him suited up fighting alongside the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, this isn't the God of Thunder we know.

Nebula

Karen Gillan was quoted as saying that Nebula finds an unexpected ally in Avengers: Infinity War but she was clearly talking about Tony Stark if this teaser trailer is any indication.

They're both trapped on that spaceship which is adrift in space and seeing as they're the only ones left standing after the battle on Titan, it should be fun seeing what sort of dynamic they have as they essentially prepare to die together. They need to think of a way out of this situation, though, and that means working together whether they like it or not.

He's Baaaaaack!

Confirming something we've known for a while now, this trailer finally puts the spotlight on Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye as he reveals his new Ronin persona and unmasks in front of Black Widow.

Based on the timing of the voiceover, Clint almost certainly lost his family when Thanos snapped his fingers and has become a mercenary of sorts in the time that's passed between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The big question is, will Natasha be able to convince her old friend to rejoin the team to try and set things right?

There's, Uh, No Blood On That Sword

This is a very minor/fun observation but look closely when Ronin wipes the blood from his sword and you'll notice that there's no blood there! If you're wondering why that is, it's probably because Marvel Studios had to censor the trailer, similar to what Warner Bros. did with Suicide Squad when Harley Quinn's shorts were lengthened for the previews shown in theaters and online.

Black Widow Is Still Blonde

Despite being shown with red hair in various pieces of promo art, Black Widow still has he blonde locks in this teaser and something tells me that it means very little time has passed since the last time we saw these heroes. At most, I think it's a number of months but it almost certainly isn't the five years we've heard thrown around by some people since April.

Now, there's nothing to say we won't jump ahead again but Scott Lang clearly won't have been stuck inside the Quantum Realm for too long; after all, why would Black Widow keep her hair blonde for a significant amount of time now she's holed up in the New Avengers Facility rather than on the run?

The Super Soldier Suit

Leaked promo art may have shown Captain America decked out in a new Avengers suit but we don't get to see it here. Instead, the clean-shaven hero is wearing the Super Soldier outfit he donned in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Does that mean he still doesn't feel deserving of being Captain America again?

Well, until he reunites with Iron Man and earns his forgiveness, I find it doubtful that he would be willing to wear the red, white and blue, not to mention picking up his old shield again (which doesn't make an appearance in this trailer).

Peggy Carter

Of all the things Marvel could have included in this trailer, this is a really interesting choice.

With so much speculation running rampant about time-travel factoring into Avengers: Endgame, is there a reason why Steve is standing there looking at a picture of his first love, Peggy Carter?

It could mean a lot or very little but it's a moment which is definitely worth discussing, especially as many fans remain convinced that the star-spangled Avenger will finally get his dance with her...after dying! That would be a rather sad ending for Steve but also quite fitting thinking about it.

What's Going To Work?

Marvel Studios knows how to get fans talking and it's hard not to wonder what Natasha is talking about when she tells Steve that, "This is going to work." Is she referring to Earth's Mightiest Heroes travelling back in time to get their hands on the Infinity Stones or could it be as simple as them travelling into outer space to bring Iron Man back home?

Well, we don't know but Cap makes it clear that he doesn't know what he'll do if it doesn't work, a sign that whatever Natasha was referring to is going to have some major ramifications.

Avengers: Endgame

Well, after months of endless speculation and rumours, we finally know what the Avengers 4 title is. It's not Avengers: Annihilation or Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet; it's Avengers: Endgame.

Despite the Russo Brothers promising that the title was never spoken in Avengers: Infinity War, this feels like a fitting choice based on Doctor Strange's final words to Iron Man and it's arguably a better fit than any of the rumoured possibilities. With this movie set to serve as the end of an era for the MCU, it's probably fitting in more ways than one too.

Ant-Man's Knocking

Well, he's not in the Quantum Realm anymore! Steve and Natasha seem genuinely shocked to see Scott Lang (as I mentioned a little earlier, they're clearly under the impression he's dead) and as surprising as this may be to hear, it's impossible to escape the feeling that Ant-Man is going to end up being a pivotal part of whatever happens during this adventure.

How he escapes the Quantum Realm remains to be seen but it's hard to imagine his knowledge of that mysterious world not factoring into The Avengers' plan to defeat the Mad Titan.

The New Release Date

Chances are that by the time this trailer ended, you had tears in your eyes and were jumping around your living room/office like a lunatic. Well, in that case, you may have missed the fact that Avengers: Endgame has a new release date: April 26th!

That means it hits
theaters around the same time that Avengers: Infinity War did and fans in North America will get to see the movie at the same time as everyone else. It's a great move by Marvel Studios as it helps avoid spoilers getting out too soon.

And then you had the audacity to post it last night, too. Way to ruin the surprise - you must be fun at parties.

@KingJoffrey - the weirdest part is how Endgame was one of the very first titles to be speculated but we are still completely blown away? This was the worst surprise in Marvel history, which is why I'm not sure I buy it and not sure why you folks are buying it.

@KingJoffrey - GameSpot also spoiled the title on YouTube. It popped on my feed as soon as it came out. I'm sure some others did too.

@CapnMurphy2021 - you don't think the Russo bros would get a big kick out of putting a fake title in the trailer?

@KingJoffrey - The holographic displays of the missing characters is an obvious homage to Cap reviewing who was missing after the snap in the Infinity Gauntlet comic.

@Argetlam22 -

the title was spoiled waaaaay back in April when Dr. Strange says it....

Argetlam22
Argetlam22 - 12/8/2018, 11:39 AM
@Equivocal - and that doesn't strike you as just a little too obvious when the phrase "infinity war" was never uttered once in the whole movie? And why all the secrecy if the title is right there like you say? I think the Russos just tricked everyone by using that line as bait. There was even a tweet floating around saying the actual title isn't in the trailer. Like the Russos wouldn't get frustrated with fans and decide to have a little fun by switching out the title for laughs. What better way to keep a secret than pretend to give it away? It's classic.

@Equivocal - alright so I did some research and apparently it WAS going to be annihilation but they changed the title almost literally at the last minute. It was annihilation, endgame, or infinity gauntlet and Endgame won. Probably because Annihilation is just too spoilery and there are certain journalists who can't avoid ruining the surprise for movie goers. I respect their logic.

@CapnMurphy2021 - @equivocal - The tweet I mentioned earlier was from Steve Weintraub at collider. He said something about the title not being in the trailer which made me think this might be a red herring, which we completely deserve.
