AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Co-Director Talks Infinity Stones Portrayal And Focusing On "Important" Characters
Joe Russo talks here about how Avengers: Infinity War will differentiate the Infinity Stones and how the focus is going to be kept on the "important characters" despite the movie having a massive cast...
We have a lot of questions about Avengers: Infinity War, with one of the biggest being how the Infinity Stones are going to be portrayed. We know that they're all incredibly powerful so when combined, Thanos is going to be unstoppable. However, don't go thinking that the Stones will all end up blending into one as co-director Joe Russo has made it clear that they'll all be portrayed in different ways.
What that means is we can expect each of the Stones to be utilised by the Mad Titan for different reasons rather than just giving Thanos a bunch of random powers he can use against The Avengers.
"Each gem has its own special power. We had to put a lot of thought into how we would represent those powers so it was clear to the audience. Not only are you dealing with a lot of characters, you are also dealing with the stones, the gems, and there’s a lot of them. So for people to keep track of all of it, we had to get really specific. I won’t divulge how we use the Reality Stone, but we do use it."
That should shake things up in a very interesting way and it's interesting that Russo specifically mentions the Reality Stone as the last time we saw that was when Volstagg and Sif handed it over to The Collector at the end of Thor: The Dark World. It clearly won't be staying in his collection for long!
As for which characters Avengers: Infinity War will focus on, Russo wouldn't name names but it sounds like the spotlight will mostly be on the likes of Captain America and Iron Man rather than Spider-Man and the other heroes who will be making what sound like relatively minor cameo appearances.
"The story really centers who you would expect it to center around, so our more important characters. This is a culmination film ten years in the making and we are pulling the main story threads from all of the different franchises into one unifying narrative. So any of the important characters are going to be in this film and they are going to have something important to do."
