AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Hi-Res Concept Art Features Ultimate And Pirate Versions Of Thor Along With Jarnbjorn

In this latest batch of Avengers: Infinity War concept art, we get to see some startlingly different takes on the God of Thunder, while Stormbreaker is replaced with Jarnbjorn and...a gun? Check it out...

After essentially being rebooted in Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder was a new, well, God in Avengers: Infinity War and that required a totally different look for the iconic hero.

While what we got was a cross between his classic appearance and the costume shown in Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios mulled over a lot of very unique ideas for the epic ensemble and the character could have ended up looking totally unrecognisable had some of these talented artists had their own way.

In some of these, Thor looks like a totally different character, while Stormbreaker is switched out for both Jarnbjorn and a pretty formidable looking gun.

So, to check out this new Avengers: Infinity War concept art, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below. You'll want to see all of these and they're all presented in lovely hi-res!

This costume is quite close to what ended up on screen in Avengers: Infinity War but it's also clear to see that this version was heavily inspired by the Ultimate version of the God of Thunder.

While Thor appears to have a weapon of some sort on his back, it appears as if he's swapped Stormbreaker for a pretty badass looking gun. That certainly would have got fans talking!

The version of Thor which ended up on screen, Marvel did a great job giving the hero a fresh new look but we think you'll be surprised by some of the crazy alternatives in the rest of this post!

Thor once again has long hair, a slightly different cape, and what is quite clearly the MCU's take on Jarbjorn here. However, I'd say Marvel made the right choice going for Stormbreaker.

These designs will no doubt remind you somewhat of the Unworthy Thor from the comic books and it's interesting to see both what he's done with his cape around his shoulders...and missing eye!

A completely different take on the God of Thunder, I like this design a lot even if it does feel like it would actually be better suited for a villainous version of Thor from an alternate universe!

Marvel Studios clearly toyed with a lot of different ideas for Thor's armour in Avengers: Infinity War and it would have been fun seeing his appearance evolve in such a drastic way.

These takes on Thor's costume are a little more regal and would have shown how he's grown into his role as Asgard's new king since we saw him on the deck of his ship at the end of Thor: Ragnarok.

As promised, we now have what can only be described as a "pirate" take on the hero which takes him down a less regal path and plays on the fact that he's been drifting through space with no home.

This is a complete one-eighty turn for Thor's costume and not something which has any basis in the comic books. That doesn't mean it wouldn't have worked but it would have been controversial.

This is a pretty badass look for Thor and one which might have worked if he'd spent a little more time with the Guardians of the Galaxy, something that could happen if Taika Waititi directs Vol. 3.

I'm not sure what Marvel was thinking taking the God of Thunder down this route but he looks totally unrecognisable and, well, not like Thor. As a result, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't have worked.

Mjolnir may have been lost but that doesn't mean Thor has to become a normal dude! In fact, these designs are very cool but he looks just like anyone else you'd find drifting in the cosmos.

My one issue with Thor in Infinity War was the fact they gave him his eye back. Should've left him blind in one eye.

@mcu93 - same here man, 100% back you up on that

@mcu93 - Yea I completely agree. Seems like it was only done because Chris didn't like wearing the eye patch, which he did complain about falling off all the time.

It would have been a badass took, and pretty poetic that with all the time he spent avoiding the throne and being like his father, it ended up happening.

And I also really wanted to see Thor use Gungir more in combat but too bad it was lost on Asgard.

Cool stuff, I wonder if the art with long-haired Thor was done before Ragnarok. We know that production on this movie started right around the end of Civil War.

Also, this appears to be a variation of the Quantum Realm suits that the Avengers will be wearing in Avengers 4. Which only lends further credence to some of this art potentially showcasing Avengers 4 elements...

@HeavyMetal4Life - I'm getting a very Eternals / Celestial Kirby inspired vibe from this suit with all the white lining. It would have been interesting to see on screen.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Boy, I REALLY don't like that outfit, but we'll have to see how it looks on film. It looks a little too "Tron" for my tastes.

Thor in a fur cloak would have been sexy as hell.

This is also sexy too.

Whose idea was it for Thor to keep carrying a gun around lol.

Does anyone know why Hawkeye wasn't in Infinity War? I mean, the real reason.

Scott and Hope, it makes sense, I imagine they were shooting at the same time, there was at least production on both movies, but then, that would mean Hawkeye was the only Avenger left out of Infinity War. I don't believe for a second it was a story decision, because even if they said he was with his family, or he went to Japan and became Ronin or something, that's not a reason to leave him out. It just feels like a justification, like a bandaid, and not a real reason.

I don't think Renner was shooting another movie either. He did shoot another one, but not at that time, I checked. Did Renner have something personal in his life I haven't read about? A reason he couldn't shoot, or a reason the executives would leave him out for one movie? I'm genuinely asking.

Don't dig the ultimate Thor, the design is... too simple I guess. I'm happy with what we got in terms of design. The Wakanda scene with Thor arrival is badass as [frick].

Leo Decaprio?? Haha

@NotoriousWolf23 - I noticed that too. Looks like Leo from Shutter Island. Especially the middle one. In an alternate universe where Leo got swole to play Thor.

Can't see any pics other than the first so I'll just have to live vicariously through everyone's comments.
