Avengers: Infinity War is a milestone achievement for Marvel Studios that culminates 10 years worth of storytelling, but filming that concluding chapter is no easy feat when it comes to shooting scenes with the enormous cast the film has assembled. Sebastian Stan (who plays Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier) recently explained at Rhode Island Comic Con that the shooting schedule for the film was a challenging one, as he filmed some of his scenes months apart.
“It’s not something you always deal with," he said. "I feel like you always kind of have a script. But I guess, what I would say is, because we’ve done these characters for a bit now, there’s a little bit of a telepathic kind of knowledge between us and the writers. And you kind of can sometimes guess where they’re going to take it, a little bit. For example, this one was really hard, because we keep going in and out. I go back there for a week, and then I leave for a month. And then I go back there for a few more days. So it’s a little bit out of sync. But it still hopefully adds up in the end.”
With the first trailer for the film expected before the end of the year, it will be interesting to see how directors Joe and Anthony Russos manage to combine such a vast array of separately filmed scenes into a story happening all at once.
Avengers: Infinity War releases on May 4, 2018.
