There has been a lot of secrecy surrounding
Avengers: Infinity War. Last week, the film's directors, the Russo Brothers posted a special message on social media (on behalf of Thanos) asking people not to spoil the movie. Marvel Studios isn't even screening the full film ahead of the worldwide premiere to keep things tightly under wraps, only previewing 20 to 30 minutes of footage. During said premiere, many actors went into detail about just how secretive things were behind the scenes.
In an interview with
Hey U Guys at the UK screening, Paul Bettany (who plays Vision) wasn't able answer many questions, explaining that he has no idea what to expect thanks, in part, to fake scripts.
The secrecy around this film extended, this time, to the cast. I mean, really, it was crazy. We read scripts that were fake scripts and then they had fake twists and scenes that never were shot and you'd talk to the director and they'd say 'all of that stuff at the end? Not happening.'
This isn't the first time we've heard fake, or incomplete, scripts being employed to protect the secrecy around the film. Tom Holland (who plays Spider-Man) told fans at ACE Comic Con ack in January that he didn't even know who he was fighting while he was filming some of his scenes for the film in addition to not having access to the complete script. Holland recently admitted, whilst appearing on The Graham Norton Show, that he wasn't even aware who he'd be acting alongside in some scenes.
I just tell everyone. I just wasn't allowed to read the script. I'd be on set and be working with actors and actresses that were just tennis balls for that day so I'd be texting people like 'Hey, are you in this scene with Spider-Man?' so I basically had to do a lot of background research to find out what I was doing.
With both fans and the cast itself in the dark in regards to information about the film; Hey U Guys interviewed Tom Hilddleston (who plays Loki) at the UK screening of Infinity War footage, and he had quite a revelatory explanation for why Marvel has been so secretive. Hiddleston explained why only half an hour of footage was shown at the premiere:
The reason they're not screening the whole film is because there are so many new things that happen in it - things that have never happened before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - that it's just more exciting if everyone in the world sees the film at the same time... So that feels new for me, having been in the Marvel Universe for awhile.
What do you think about the level of secrecy surrounding Avengers: Infinity War? What "new things" do you think Hiddleston could be referring to?
