As we've seen throughout the first two
Avengers: Infinity War trailers, Thanos seems to acquire his first two Infinity Stones rather quickly. It appears that first retrieves the purple Power Stone from Xandar (likely slaughtering the Nova Corps in the process), and secondly the Space Stone from the hand of the God of Mischief himself.
At this point, we have little to no idea when or how Thanos will obtain the others, but a close-up look at the new Infinity War IMAX poster may give us a clue.
There are other theories that this might be Ant-Man, but a Reddit user named Tprime117 posted a zoomed-in image of Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet in the new poster, with a circle around the knuckle of his thumb. As you can see below, it appears as though a third stone is resting in that spot as it's clearly distinct from the rest of the slots.
Not sure if this has been posted yet, from the new poster from r/marvelstudios
While the stone in the thumb isn't glowing green, it does match the placement of the Time Stone from other posters, promotional art and toys. It would also make sense for the studio and poster artists to try and hide the color of the stone, as to not give away any of the movie's spoilers. And, as we know from multiple previous examples, the posters aren't always as air-tight as you'd think.
Both of the trailers, as well as the LEGO sets, have made clear that Thanos is aware of Dr Strange's stone. The Mad Titan sends two of his enforcers, Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian, to New York to retrieve it. This attack is what leads to characters like Tony Stark and Spider-Man to join Strange in defending the Sanctum Santorum. While that's certainly a formidable team, the newest Infinity War trailer shows that not everything went as New York's Avengers had hoped.
This image isn't confirmation that the Time Stone will be the third addition to Thanos' collection, but it does seem to make a lot of sense within the context of the story.
What do you think? Is this our first look at Thanos wielding the Time Stone?
