One of the most surprising moments in Thor: Ragnarok came when the God of Thunder's eye is sliced out by Hela. In a bid to keep that twist a secret, Marvel has shown the hero with both eyes both in Avengers: Infinity War promo art and the trailer shown at Comic-Con but does that actually mean we should expect to see him somehow ditch the eyepatch to go back to his classic appearance? After all, there's a lot of technology in space which could potentially heal Thor and restore his good looks!

Well, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has now made it clear that Thor will be keeping his eyepatch moving forward and went on to shed some light on how exactly it ended up happening in the movie.

"That kind of just evolved just throughout the script process, to just keep stripping that character down, having him lose the hammer and all those things and to kind of create a broken version of the character. At the end, he sort of becomes a refugee." Chances are that when the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War is released, we'll see Thor rocking the eyepatch and there's no denying that it makes him look pretty badass. It also gives the God of Thunder a lasting scar from his latest movie.

@OptimusGrime - Dude, you just saw a Thor movie where Mjolnir gets destroyed in the beginning with a return nowhere in sight and you still think Thor'll get his eyes back? Don't be so sure pal.

As long as we get Mjolnir back in A3 or A4 and it's epic as hell.

Spoilers;
Except we feel none of that because the character is never given time to actually process things - nor the audience because of the tone breaking jokes. People either laughed through the core emotional scenes or simply did not seem to connect with the aspects that should have had them concerned that perhaps Thor could die. People were laughing through the destruction of Asgard and most the final battle due to jokes or not taking it seriously after most the movie's comedic focus... i think that shows how much it messed up.

Thor never really seemed to acknowledge the destruction of the Hammer, the loss of his eye, and he seemed to just take the destruction of Asgard easily 'Asgard is a people' If the hero does not seem to acknowledge anything happening to them or around them - then the audience does not either.

Banner might be forever stuck as Hulk, yet every line he has with Thor talking about it is a joke - even his eventual self-sacrifice is a joke playing off the MCU Incredible Hulk. It was difficult to see if any of the movie was meant to be taken seriously, especially considering it re-used the AoU 'sun is getting real low' which was met either with groans or laughter.

If the goal was to create a 'broken version of the character' it sort of worked - but only in the sense that events happened to the character, not in the sense that the audience or character went on any emotional journey. The only time he even remotely seems emotional was during the scene with Odin in Valhalla/Norway after Odin's death.
