The Russos Explain Why AVENGERS 4 Won't Necessarily Be AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - PART 2

Avengers: Infinity War was initially announced as a two-part movie but the Russos talk here about how Avengers 4 has evolved into its own beast and how it will connect to the upcoming first instalment.

Marvel Studios still hasn't revealed the title of Avengers 4 and the prevailing theory is that it's because it would potentially spoil the events of Avengers: Infinity War. What we do know is that while the two moves will be connected they're not necessarily telling one big story and that leaves us with an awful lot to think about. Now, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have attempted to clear things up for fans.

Asked directly how the movies have evolved and the way Avengers: Infinity War sets the stage for Avengers 4, Joe explained that even though they were shot back to back, their approach was to treat them as two separate releases similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and sequel Civil War.

12 Amazing Thanos Moments Which Need To Happen In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR And AVENGERS 4

"Our approach has always been … we look at the process, as with Marcus and McFeely, it’s simply the same thing in the way that The Winter Soldier relates to Civil War, and the way that Civil War relates to Infinity War. These two movies will also relate. There’s a narrative thread that is connecting these films, but at the same time, there’s an independence in terms of what the experience is or where the story goes. It isn’t a true two-parter, and I think the two-parter concept came back when Marvel decided they were going to culminate the MCU, it was going to be a two-movie deal. But as we developed the movie, in execution, it ended up being more of two singular expressions."

So, they will and won't be two standalone movies but it is clear that fans expecting a huge cliffhanger leading directing into Avengers 4 may be disappointed because it doesn't sound like we're getting a "To Be Continued..." sort of deal here. With any luck, all will become clear when Infinity War is released!

Really wonder what the subtitle will be. Can’t imagine why they would keep it secret unless it’s a big spoiler or something, but I can’t imagine any subtitle being a spoiler

Not sure I like this approach yet. I feel like the Infinity War story needs 2 movies. A solid 5 hour story.
