AVENGERS: Kevin Feige Addresses Original 6 Return Rumors; Scarlett Johansson's Project IS Still Happening

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has addressed recent rumours that the MCU's original six Avengers will assemble again, while also confirming Scarlett Johansson is still developing a project for them.

Marvel Studios isn't quite in a state of DCEU-like disarray, but it's clear some changes need to be made. Whether it's a quantity-over-quality issue or the fact Kevin Feige is spread too thin, the Multiverse Saga hasn't quite managed to live up to expectations thus far.

Early word on The Marvels is positive, though, and we're seeing lots of indications that the problems are being addressed.

Recently, it was reported that Marvel Studios is making moves to bring back the original six Avengers - Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) - for a future project. If we had to hazard a guess, it's likely Avengers: Secret Wars

Talking at last night's Las Vegas premiere for The Marvels, Feige was asked about the rumours head-on.

One specific thing I want to ask you that was in the headlines is this idea that some fallen Avengers could make their return, anything you can say about that?

No? Is that the answer?

Yeah?

Hmm….fallen Avengers returning. I literally have not even seen that, is that a new rumor?

Yeah, it was, like, one of the things that was talked about at this retreat where Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. were possibly returning at some point.

We did not discuss that at the retreat. It’s the truth. We’re doing a project with Scarlett, we love Robert, he’s a part of the family. But in terms of returning? We’ll have to see.

The denial isn't a surprise and we wouldn't be shocked if Feige is telling the truth. After all, Variety's article has largely been dismissed as a "hit piece," with many of the claims either confirmed or strongly believed to be incorrect.

The biggest takeaway here is confirmation that Johansson's mystery MCU project is still in the works. We still have no clue whether it's a movie or TV show and are no closer to learning whether it will even star the actress. Black Widow was a hit in 2021 (considering how and when it was released) so a sequel likely isn't off the table.

Do you think we'll eventually get to see the original six Avengers assemble in the MCU again?

Maybe a hot take, but I don't wanna see any of the retired OG Avengers turn up. Yea, it's probably gonna be variants, whatever. Yea, I'm 99% sure at least one of them will be in Secret Wars in some capacity. Yea, maybe they can even find a good narrative justification for it. I still don't dig it. I feel like they should just flesh out the newly introduced characters more. Gimme time with Shang-Chi and Kate and Sam and Kamala and She-Hulk and Carol and Shuri and Namor and whoever else gets to have a prominent role in the line-up. Gimme Scott and Hope meeting Loki. Some of these characters will have only been in one thing before Kang Dynasty in this entire saga. It's crazy that we haven't seen Shang-Chi in two years. Give us time with these characters. That's what I feel we've been missing. If you give Tobey and Jackman and Evans all the spotlight in Secret Wars that's just gonna be hype for that one movie. Investment in the larger universe matters.

@WakandanQueen - this! It boggles my mind why people don't want to let them move on with a new team. The original 6 can come back down the line but right now its way too soon imo.

@WakandanQueen - I agree with all this, yet simultaneously am so ready for a soft reboot. Both can exist simultaneously: continue to build the characters we have, introduce X-Men and FF, and get that soft reboot going so the MCU can FINALLY have all of its characters to play with in the sandbox

@WakandanQueen - I kinda agree. I really wanna see Kang Dynasty be a movie about the all the new Avengers, and maybe even triumphing over Kang so they don't come across as weak.

As for Secret Wars, I'm okay with them going all out. Even if it's just for a portals-like scene. The main movie (like Endgame) could still feature a core team of new characters, and the third act could feature everybody.

@WakandanQueen - I’ll never say no to Cap returning, and I trust Chris Evans wouldn’t agree to it unless it was handled well.

I'm glad we got RDJ of all the people that were touted he's the only one I see doing it and look how that turned out. Surely he has to come back given they now have characters with not much pull.

Not a fan of Yelena I want Scarlett back

The real news would be if Feige is actually gonna give a proper answer to a question one day. He's the king of giving non-answers

I love RDJ, Evans and Scarlett so much in these roles, they were iconic but I don't want them back. However, I do want their characters back so let the pay off from this dreary multiverse saga be a reboot that introduces new actors for the key roles. Surely that was why we had to endure this in the first place? Without the pay off it's just an over used trope that delivers sweet FA!?

All original Avengers actors will return in Avengers:Secret Wars part 1 & 2 (they will have other titles as Infinity War and Endgame had).

There may also be some of them in Deadpool 3, most probably Chris Evans as Human Torch or RDJ as Invincible Iron Man.

Honestly, Black Widow is and needs to stay as a supporting character. Just IMO.

It's the multi-verse! This makes just about anything possible. If Scarjo and Downey are willing and compensated to their liking, its a given to have them come back for the finale. What else could these "hush hush" projects with them be? They'll be in Secret Wars... I'd put money on it.

I think there is almost zero chance they dont bring everyone back for Secret Wars. Kang Dynasty probably wont do well. The entire MCU hinges on Secret Wars.
