MARVEL'S AVENGERS: New Co-Op Trailer And Over Seven Minutes Of Gameplay Footage Revealed

As well as a single player story mode, Marvel's Avengers is also set to feature an online multiplayer component, and you can take a first look at that - and some new gameplay footage - after the jump!

Following the release of that action-packed, M.O.D.O.K.-centric story trailer, the Marvel's Avengers team has now shared a co-op trailer for "War Zones." The game's online component will see players working alongside up to three other members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, all of whom can either be other people from across the globe or A.I.

From there, you'll be able to customise both your weapons and costumes, not to mention pulling off a series of badass team-up moves like having Thor use Mjolnir to give Iron Man a power boost.

Talking of the God of Thunder, he takes centre stage in a seven-and-a-half minute gameplay video which shows us more of what we can expect from Marvel's Avengers. It looks like the levels will be fairly open, giving players the chance to make their way through the game in any number of ways. In terms of combat, though, it looks like we can definitely expect to mash a lot of buttons!

All in all, the game looks like a lot of fun, and if you weren't already sold on it, these latest videos should help. September is fast approaching, and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel's Avengers reportedly remains on course to hit shelves despite previous delays.

That frame-rate though...

@tmp3 - That was because of the livestream. The actual gameplay uploaded on the Marvel channel is waaaaaay smoother.

Co-op you say? You have my attention.

I really don't see the point of co-op. You'll just be beating up robots with a friend.

And dang, them frame rate drops. I can only imagine what the online experience would be like.

@Vigor - I expect it to be better but the game releases before the PS5 does. And not everyone is going to upgrade at launch.

@RageDriver2401 - yea I know. Selfishly since I'm getting the series x, the frame rate here doesn't bother me

@RageDriver2401 - Well when you do eventually get a PS5 you'll get the game free on PS5 if you already got it for PS4. So that's pretty damn cool.

@RageDriver2401 - Yeah, but even the Lego Star Wars games are a blast to play through on co-op. Many classic games were co-op whether it was needed or not. It was good old-fashioned fun to sit there with a pal and play through a game.

@Godzillakartt - its so odd. Thats exactly how I feel. We really don't get games of this genre much anymore so it feels like a game that was created 10 years ago that went into a freeze chamber

@Godzillakartt - hopefully with local coop. Its a pet peev of mine how modern games tend to avoid those local multiplayer features.

The more I see and read about it, the more excited I get! It looks a lot of fun and I want to play it. As said in another article, though, I’ll wait til reviews are out to avoid an Anthem-like situation of a game looking good but actually being shit.

This looks SO BORING.

Like it lacks the passion and ingenuity that made the Arkham series and Spider-Man PS4 great.

Will I buy it?...Yeah!

Will I unfairly judge it's gameplay/animation fluidity to TLOU2?...Oh Hell Yea!

@LongMayHeReign -

It's honestly going to take some time for me to get TLOU2 out of my system enough for me to enjoy anything that isn't top tier
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/24/2020, 2:46 PM
@TheJustinHammer - Notice where I said gameplay "/animation fluidity". TLOU2's gameplay is indeed simple compared to other games but it's capable of drawing out numerous emotions including fear and an incredible level of suspense.

When it comes to animation fluidity IDGAF what you say to me the gave has the best animations ever in gaming. Whereas Avengers (a game I have consistently defended for months) has very stiff none fluid animations. Also how was Hulk smashing that robot and literally left not a single scratch on it IN A CUTSCENE NO LESS?!
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/24/2020, 2:54 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - Exactly, and I feel that way from a gameplay AND story perspective. We constantly see people say they want less "cookie cutter" that takes risks and takes new paths that are not the norm.

Then we get 30+ hours of exactly that and people shun it and project hate because it takes them out of their cliche Hollywood comfort zone. This is why I love Game of Thrones before season 7-8 because it did this beautifully as did TLOU2.

I wish we had a dedicated spoiler article on here so we could all discuss everyone's views on why they do or don't like the narrative. All I wanna do is talk about this game but my buddies haven't finished it yet. Shit was incredible!
tripttwe
tripttwe - 6/24/2020, 3:11 PM
@LongMayHeReign - 616 cool points for holding back on the spoilers! I bout the game on the 19th, but I haven't jumped in because I'm finishing Red Dead Redemption 2. Covid brought back the game in me with all the free time. Penny. Penny.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/24/2020, 4:01 PM
@tripttwe - No prob, I would never spoil this game as that to me is part of the reason why it's getting hate. Most of the people going out of their way to trash it are people who haven't even played it and instead watched it being played on Youtube.

They say it's terribly written but they don't know the difference between writing and narrative choices. The game has masterful writing it's just a matter of whether you are willing to go along with their narrative or not.

Regardless I hope you enjoy it when you get around to playing it, and I will pray that you manage to go into it unspoiled!
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 6/24/2020, 6:59 PM
@LongMayHeReign - I'm about 10 hours into it and I'm constantly struck by how steady of a hand it has while taking both gameplay and story in directions that make me feel like I have zero control of what's going on, while also causing me to constantly make micro-choices within the gameplay structure. It's got such a frenetic pace at times that makes for a really imposing experience. Definitely need a LOT more of that in gaming going forward.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/24/2020, 7:15 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - So true, it took such a unique story path that was not sure about at first, but over time realized why and the story was better off for it. It went from basic cliche to truly trans-formative and innovative. I liken it to a $200M budgeted art house film with Oscar worthy performances!
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/25/2020, 11:33 AM
@TheJustinHammer - Your first mistake was trying to negate my animations point by bringing up the first game. TLOU was in no way a "glitchy laggy mess" and I never said it was. But Part 2 is far more technically impressive on this front and that can't be denied, and is made even more impressive by the fact that it all runs smoothly on base PS4s.

You say most games have animations this good and to that I say WTF? Where are these "most" games and why haven't I played them yet? To me the closest game in animation quality this gen is FF7R but even that has multiple point where the animations are clunky and not fluid.

In terms of the story I greatly disagree. It is very well written for the direction they took the story in. The dialogue unlike "most" games felt real and genuine to the characters, the structure is made in such a way as to pull numerous emotions out of the player. Contrary to what you believe I know I and numerous other players have felt joy, sadness, rage, disgust, fear, emptiness, guilt, love, shock, and a great deal empathy. I'm sorry you didn't feel that, from previous articles I believe you said you read the leaks and I believe that may have affected your experience or maybe not just a thought.

To me bad writing is such that leaves plot holes and makes characters act out of character without explanation. The narrative choices can be broad and formless without the context of well written characters and interactions. So no I disagree with your opinion that the writing is bad because there are no holes and everything makes narrative sense.

And no saying someone didn't play it is not avoiding legit criticism, because how can you have legit criticisms of something without experiencing it? Over 2000+ 0/10 scores were posted on Metacritic mere hours after the game released, many of them citing SJW slander as their reasoning. I have also had discussions with multiple people who openly admit to never playing the game yet rating it just because. Do you consider these "legit" criticisms?

You are actually playing the game and have legit criticisms (albeit ones I disagree with) so I respect your take, but I refuse to respect people who hate on anything for the sake of hating on it and attention seeking [frick] those people!
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 6/26/2020, 12:20 PM
@TheJustinHammer - Please tell me where the plot holes are I have now asked multiple people who have claimed there are plot holes but have yet to receive any actual examples.

"I agree, but that isnt happening here. If it was, it would be more on the controversial side, or outright negative."

If you truly believe that then you either haven't read any of those user reviews or are in complete denial, because yes to a large extent that is exactly what is happening here.

But PLEASE tell me those plot holes!

The idea of Avengers being disbanded is cool, I like me some getting the band back together scenarios, but feels too recent since Endgame already did it, plus, the whole Inhuman stuff is just... :l

I'll buy it, tho, maybe with some different skins the game will look better, and not so generic.

JustALurker - 6/25/2020, 4:53 AM
@KnifeWasTooSlow - the lineup is weak as hell, it's just the 2012 lineup without Hawkeye. They shouldve went for a crazier lineup with doctor strange, antman or Captain marvel in the mix
Kman
Kman - 6/25/2020, 5:04 AM
@JustALurker - they’re adding heroes and missions and all that stuff to the game as it continues... jesus christ, don’t blow your load all at once.
