Joe and Anthony Russo took a well-earned break from superheroes after the release of Avengers: Endgame, but they've always maintained that they would like to return to the comic book movie genre at some point down the road. Well, it looks like that time is near - and it may not be for Marvel Studios!

While speaking to Fandango's Erik Davis, Anthony confirmed that he and his brother are developing a mysterious new superhero project. He didn't reveal any specifics, but did suggest that we will learn more about it in the "not-too-distant future," and believes fans will be surprised by what they're working on.

Intriguingly, Davis also notes that Russo was responding to his question, "when are they returning to superheroes and would they consider doing a DC movie."

This is bound to stir up a lot of speculation, but we really don't have very much to go on. Davis' tease is interesting, but Russo's response is far from confirmation that this mysterious project is DC-related.

Joe and Anthony have spoken about their love of Wolverine on several occasions, so a lot of fans will be hoping they've signed on to helm Marvel's planned X-Men reboot. Would that really be considered a surprise, though?

We're just going to have to wait and see if the Russos drop any more hints in the coming weeks. For now, be sure to share your thoughts with us in the usual place.

Every day I check Rotten Tomatoes for Cherry reviews, and so far nothing. About a month ago the Russos showed it to a handful of people, and the few reactions I heard were a bit of a mixed bag.
