There have been conflicting reports about Captain Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War role but Disney has now confirmed on multiple occasions that she won't be making an appearance (unless it's as a complete surprise, of course). Regardless, the writers of that and Avengers 4 have now shed some light on what we should expect from the character and it sounds like Carol Danvers is seriously powerful.
Asked about his reaction to working with the character, Christopher Markus said: "Well, super excited to have her—for one thing. You know, that movie does not exist yet so we’re following up on something that is good intentions at the moment. But that’s a power scale that right now doesn’t exist in the MCU." Kevin Feige has been quoted as saying Captain Marvel is the world's most powerful superhero and it definitely sounds like that's something which will be touched on in Avengers 4.
He went on to point out the similarities between Captain Marvel and Captain America. "She’s in some ways the closest to Captain America which is a weird, now rare kind of character which is sort of a person who’s right and knows they’re right and doesn’t really want to hear it when you tell them they’re wrong. So, with all these flawed, [frick]ed up people and Quill who’s a mess and Tony who’s a massive ego all contorted. It’s fun to get another person with a clear vision in there going, 'Shut up.'"
So, based on all this, it definitely sounds like Carol is a character who will have a huge impact on both the MCU and Avengers 4. With Chris Evans saying he's retiring from Marvel after that movie, it sounds like Captain Marvel is being groomed to take Captain America's place as the face of this world and her powers being off the charts means there will be someone there to protect the world in his absence!
