AVENGERS 4 Writers Tease Captain Marvel's Crazy Power Level In The Upcoming Movie

Captain Marvel won't be flying in to save the day in Avengers: Infinity War but it definitely sounds like the hero could help turn the tide in Avengers 4 given her insane sounding power levels in the MCU.

There have been conflicting reports about Captain Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War role but Disney has now confirmed on multiple occasions that she won't be making an appearance (unless it's as a complete surprise, of course). Regardless, the writers of that and Avengers 4 have now shed some light on what we should expect from the character and it sounds like Carol Danvers is seriously powerful.

Asked about his reaction to working with the character, Christopher Markus said: "Well, super excited to have her—for one thing. You know, that movie does not exist yet so we’re following up on something that is good intentions at the moment. But that’s a power scale that right now doesn’t exist in the MCU." Kevin Feige has been quoted as saying Captain Marvel is the world's most powerful superhero and it definitely sounds like that's something which will be touched on in Avengers 4

He went on to point out the similarities between Captain Marvel and Captain America. "She’s in some ways the closest to Captain America which is a weird, now rare kind of character which is sort of a person who’s right and knows they’re right and doesn’t really want to hear it when you tell them they’re wrong. So, with all these flawed, [frick]ed up people and Quill who’s a mess and Tony who’s a massive ego all contorted. It’s fun to get another person with a clear vision in there going, 'Shut up.'"

So, based on all this, it definitely sounds like Carol is a character who will have a huge impact on both the MCU and Avengers 4. With Chris Evans saying he's retiring from Marvel after that movie, it sounds like Captain Marvel is being groomed to take Captain America's place as the face of this world and her powers being off the charts means there will be someone there to protect the world in his absence!

What do you guys think? As always, weigh in with your thoughts on that in the comments section.

Definitely holding you to that one.

@Kevwebsz - said closest, not exactly like him

@Kevwebsz -

It's important to read it all, they go on to say;

"kind of character which is sort of a person who’s right and knows they’re right and doesn’t really want to hear it when you tell them they’re wrong."

This does not sound like Captain America - who sat and listened but always did what he felt was right for the 'little guy'. This sounds like a headstrong hero who wont think before doing something. 'My way or the highway' type of character.

I'm also concerned about this character becoming a Deus Ex Machina for Avengers 4.

@Scarilian - Have we watched the same movies? That's Captain America in a nutshell, summarised by that whole "don't move even if the whole world tells you otherwise" spiel. There's a reason Honest Trailers called him "dickishly stubborn".

@Scarilian - I'll give you that your assessment of Steve is accurate. He won't budge from what he thinks is right, but he will at least listen and consider.

You don't seem to be appreciating the first part of the quote though. She's "a person who is right."

I don't want every character to be exactly the same. As long as her compass points true north, I'm not concerned if she's a bit more impatient about it.

@kaethar -
Except in the MCU that quote comes from Sharon Carter (Agent 13). The MCU Captain America is often conflicted which is part of why i find his character enjoyable. He is unsure of what action he should take in Civil War because he is not a leader, he is a soldier. He flip flops on signing the accords and is only thrown off when he notices small aspects such as how Tony is treating Scarlet Witch or how Bucky might not be given a fair trial. His character flaw is his moral compass, he always tries to do what is right to protect the 'little guy' or does what his heart tells him.

@MyBeard -
Yeah, my point is mostly that the character is not really comparable to Captain America. Especially the idea that the character always views themselves as right, as i've explored above, Captain America in the MCU is unsure of himself while having a strong moral compass.

I expect Captain Marvel is going to have a strong moral compass, yet be too headstrong/confident resulting in the death or near-death of someone close to her, probably Mar-Vell which will help her become the leader she is meant to be.

• Cap America; Strong moral compass - unsure of himself, following orders
• Cap Marvel; Strong moral compass - too sure of herself, gives orders

I can see the similarity, as far as having a clarity of purpose goes anyway. Not much similarity in character besides that.

Wasn't it somewhere that Captain Marvel can hold Hulk with just her bare hand?

@ExSOLDIER - In the comics, she isn't that powerful. She's lost to Hulk and Thor. She's supposed to be Marvel's version of Supergirl.

I have an inkling of a suspicion we’ll get either a mid or post credit scene with her.

*gleefully rubs hands in anticipation for A:IW whether she’s in it or not😁

“Hulk also beats the Black Order on his own. ”

The MCU isn’t the comics.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 3/23/2018, 4:44 AM
@regularmovieguy - I get that but just pointing it out. Black Order in the comics are like fighting little kids to the Hulk.

After the Infinity War comics Hulk goes toe to toe with Thano's. Even can buy the comics online still
Origame
Origame - 3/23/2018, 5:06 AM
@DoubleD - It makes more sense for Hulk to be stronger, only from the perspective of the handicap that he needs to lose control to gain that power. This feels like overly conforming since they haven't had the best history when it came to women heroes (i.e. the "girls don't want action figures" controversy).
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 3/23/2018, 6:07 AM
@KIDCOM - Eh, my guess would be that Carol is going to be physically strong enough to go toe-to-toe with both Hulk and Thor but also have energy blast powers that are well beyond what any of the current heroes can do.
BullyFU
BullyFU - 3/23/2018, 7:43 AM
@KIDCOM - That's one of the issues I have with the MCU. It seems that everyone is pretty equal, at least based on previous appearances and who has beat up who. All character should be able to take out all other characters with the exception of Hawkeye and Black Widow. Hulk has been taken out by Iron Man and Thor. Iron Man has been taken out by Winter Soldier, Captain America, and War Machine. War Machine has been taken out by Falcon and Vision. Vision has been taken down by Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch. It goes on and on. You really can make the case for virtually any character against any other character, even the Hulk and Thor.

@DoubleD - he Clearly meant in terms of power set; we hardly have any natural flyers , let alone ACTUAL people with her powers.

Most of our heroes have serum or use tech with only a few. She flies, had strength, can absorb energy and shoot it out of her hand and turn into binary .. that’s not a power set that exist right now

MyBeard
MyBeard - 3/23/2018, 8:22 AM
@LongMayHeReign - @Origame - Vision with the mind stone is likely way above where he is without it. We'll see I guess, but if the comment is read to mean Carol is above current Vision and also Scarlet Witch, then they are taking her to Binary levels of bad ass.
Origame
Origame - 3/23/2018, 8:49 AM
@LongMayHeReign - 1) He doesn't have every single power, but he has most as well as additional ones. Plus, it's not that much of a difference shooting from hands or head.

2) Isn't binary just a power up? Like, she can't do anything new while in that form. Just that she's more powerful.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 3/23/2018, 9:14 AM
@Origame - 1)Other than unaided flight (Thor with hammer/Stark with suit) the only power they have in common is super strength, which most of the MCU heroes have to varying degrees.

2)The only reason Vision can shoot energy blasts at all is because of the mind stone his got to move is density alteration, Carol is all about punching stuff with energy fists.

3)Binary is a power up but a power that is so vast she lowkey becomes a god tier character for a period of time, complete with light speed travel, vastly improved strength, and cosmic awareness. To my knowledge Vision cannot boost his abilities at all.

Long story short Vision and Carol are nothing alike.
