AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors On Who Can Lift Stormbreaker & Whether The Red Skull Can Leave Vormir

Avengers: Infinity War is available on Digital HD, and to celebrate the occasion, the film's directors answered a number of questions about the film including a few about Stormbreaker and the Red Skull...

Ever since Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters, fans have had a lot of questions about the Marvel film. And while the directors have done their best to answer any queries viewers have, there are still some lingering mysteries.

Thankfully, as part of a Vudu Viewing Party, the Russo Brothers took Twitter questions from fans, providing them with answers as they watched Avengers: Infinity War together. Not all of the details shared were new, but the duo did reveal a few interesting tidbits.

First off, one of the many questions posed was about the Red Skull and whether the banished Hydra leader was free to leave Vormir, home of the Soul Stone. In response, the directors said, "Red Skull is free to leave Vormir, and he is also free to pursue his desire for an Infinity Stone"

This doesn't confirm that the Captain America villain will have a role in future MCU films, but it certainly leaves the door open for the baddie to return and cause trouble for our heroes.

Following this, another fan wondered if, like Mjolnir before it, Stormbreaker could only be wielded by someone who proves themselves worthy. The Russos answer to this question was a simple one: "Mjolnir requires worthiness, not Stormbreaker."

While it makes it possible for some unsavory folks to get their hands on the mighty weapon, it's important to note that Thor said only extremely powerful beings could wield Stormbreaker, and the Russos reminded fans that there "are few people as strong or stronger than Thor" in the Marvel Universe.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I hope people dont forget the fact that Red Skull is basically immortal since he was on that planet for decades and hasnt really aged. I wonder if the idea of Caltain America is just a wrinkle in his mind compared to how long hes been gone.

@MrCamw1 - It's impossible to tell if the Skull has aged. He doesn't have skin or hair that would show aging and his costume covered his whole body so we couldn't see if he withered. For all we know, his body is skeletonized under that hoodie and he's hiding the fact that he's practically a corpse.

@Skrull - makes sense, but he did not have the convenience of being frozen to pass his years by.

@L0RDbuckethead - Me too. Hes a great combatant and a mastermind as well. They should do a 4th cap movie instead of stopping at three. instead of going bigger with the stakes and the action they should make it more intimate, like logan. that movie went against the normal escalation and it was great. and for [frick]s sake get that man laid, hes been carrying the same load in his balls for 35 years!

So Hulk will lift Stormbreaker confirmed? If Bucky becomes Cap, I want RedSkull as the villain.

It would be cool to see Red Skull become the Star Stalker. Or he could escape Vormir the way Gammora escaped the Soul Gem in the comics, by being reborn in the body of someone recently deceased. Then he could get back to torturing Steve.

I followed that, it was nice. Most interesting parts are about Red Skull being free now and the consequences of Thanos' actions with the snap of his fingers.

Likely he won't be able to do it again but he will be fearsome with all of them in unison when he fights. A lot of crazy stuff like maybe using the Space Stone to open up portals while he shoots the Power Stone and it makes it unpredictable to react, reversing time so that he is left unharmed (some in Reddit noticed it glowed green on his chest just as he was leaving from Wakanda in the place he was stabbed) or even going to the astral plane thanks to the Soul one and making it difficult to kill him, etc.

I hope that thanks to some of Scott's possible time travels based on the warning Janet gave him about time vortexes he somehow makes it possible that Captain America can use Mjolnir from the past in the present along with Thor using Stormbreaker, it'd really suck to not see him lift it up and shout "Avengers Assemble!" with it in his hand.

Red Skull returning almost made me faint. Lol Its been so freaking long since we've last seen him. The possibilities of what they can do with his character now are truly limitless. We still have the serpant society, Baron zemo and red skull. That's literally a second trilogy's worth of Cap stories.

@Catmanlives - Ugh I really wish I could have avoided all spoilers going in. Somehow even though I saw the movie on day 1, I still had the red skull reveal spoiled for me

@TheRationalNerd -

I'll never forget the feeling of everyone in the theater collectively trying to figure out who he was right up until his face becomes fully illuminated and you could hear all the "oohs" and "aahs" once you realized it was him

Wish I could go back and relive that

@Vigor - Ugh that sucks dude! I'm going to see Ant-man in the UK today but think I may have had something spoiled too. A month late release date is really crap. I'm wondering whether it'll hurt sales because a Marvel movie would usually be sold out in IMAX Waterloo on opening weekend and I was surprised there were plenty of seats when I booked two days ago!

HeavyMetal4Life - 8/4/2018, 8:04 AM
@TheRationalNerd - I shouted "holy shit" in my theater. The biggest surprise of the film for me.

I also think that Cap is a skrull. In infinity war his personality just seemed...off he barely spoke. Better yet Falcon, Widow and Steve seemed a little off. They just seemed like they were just there.
Vigor
Vigor - 8/4/2018, 4:42 AM
@TheRationalNerd - Well, let's be rational about it ;)
They were on the run for two years, with the government hunting them. Acting different shows change for the characters. if they didn't change, you'd have people on CBM saying "civil war didn't have an impact" blah blah blah
