"Death follows him like a shadow."
The chilling statement from the
Avengers: Infinity War Comic-Con trailer provides a small glimpse into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Earth's Mightiest Heroes are going to struggle to take on Thanos, and not all of them will be making it out alive.
While
Age of Ultron began with foreshadowing the Avengers' demise, the principal cast continue to soldier foreward (with some fakeouts along the way, such as Nick Fury's death). However,
Infinity War co-director Joe Russo promised MTV that audiences should be prepared for the emotional impact the film will deliver.
“I think fans should prepare for some very intense surprises in these movies. My brother [Anthony Russo] and I believe in stakes. I believe that everything has to come to an end at some point in order for it to have value. I think the audience should be prepared.”
Kevin Feige was a little more playful with the subject, joking that major characters such as Phil Coulson and Quicksilver have met their end, but when pressed further on the major players, Feige said,
“It’ll be emotional for a lot of different reasons. As all our films try to do, we want to have the laughs, we want to have the heart, we want to have the humor, and Infinity War has all of that.”

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
