Hi guys, I hope you're enjoying your weekend so far.  I was recently re-reading Marvel's 1985/86 mini-series Vision and the Scarlet Witch, and I stumbled upon these long-forgotten panels from issue #4 (Jan. 1986) in which Doctor Stephen Strange (soon to have his own MCU film, but still without a lead actor) counsels Wanda on her suprise pregnancy.  As comic readers know, Wanda married the synthezoid Vision in Giant-size Avengers #4 (June 1975).

The relevant material here is found in the centre panel of the below sequence, where Dr. Strange muses to himself, thinking "Yes, I'm a magician now, and what others would call "miracles" are commonplace to me--"

 photo 1413490981899_zps55d7391a.jpg

This reminded me of the Wanda and Pietro reveal contained in the mid-credit stinger of last summer's Winter Soldier instalment, where the twins were shown in captivity, under the watchful eye of Baron Strucker.  Here Strucker warns "It's not a world of spies anymore, not even a world of heroes -- this is the Age of Miracles..."

Seems like Joss Whedon and the other powers-that-be at Marvel Studios are incorporating minor variations of language from the comics to explain the emergence of exceptional powers in otherwise normal human beings.  The presence of Loki's sceptre seems to hint at what the genesis of these powers would be ie: extra-terrestrial influence, but with Marvel unofficially making Mutant a four-letter word in their upcoming film and comics material, it will be interesting to see if "Miracles" becomes the buzzword of the next era; and how does this tie in to the increased promotion of Marvel's Inhuman line of comics, or has that initiative already been a disappointment?

Here's the place to discuss these issues and what they may potend for the future of the Marvel comic and cinematic universes.  Will it have any relation to next summer's Secret Wars events led by Jonathan Hickman?  Leave your feedback below, and please click the "Thumbs Up" link below to see if we can get this article on the main page.

People have been reading way to much into that ever since that movie was released. He doesn't mean mutants or magic or any of that shit specifically, he just meant miracles.

Maybe? Interesting...

@TheFamousJMC
It's not about the comic relation... I just genuinely have no idea what you're trying to get across here. They mentioned miracles in a Scarlet Witch & Vision comic so that's the source of the term Age of Miracles? Is that it? If so, that's hardly even news.

Maybe if it said "age of miracles" I'd say it was connected.

Yeah, this is just one instance of a character using a rather common-place noun to refer to something. No one has an issue with a good discussion about the films and their sources, but the connection you have pulled out is tenuous at best.

Don't see you much around the comments section; if you really want a good discussion, don't hesitate to talk over the dick measuring juveniles that populate this place.

First of all you're copying everybody in the world who refer to babies as a miracle. people say that all the time, is not that unique of a thing to say.

;)

Has the term "superheroes" been used in the MCU?
I think using some kind of term/word for "powered" individuals should be used.
Obviously not mutants.

I believe on the Flash tv show didn't they use "Meta-humans"..?
Can't quite recall. Wonder in the DC films will they use that term.

I like discussion and speculation but I don't see this being connected. Sorry. I get you were probably pretty excited to post this but you gotta be open to people disagreeing with you. You might be right, I'm open to that. But by the same logic, it could be a reference to Miracle Man.

Neither is the Cinematic universe.

Why did people think so much in to this. Just because he said that doesn't mean they'll be called miracles.
Zeek
Zeek - 10/18/2014, 6:15 AM
I can't, just like you can't show me anything published that says the stinger references a couple of obscure panels from almost 30 years ago.

This is speculation, you're acting as though I'm trashing an established fact. You have to be open to people disagreeing with you. This is not much of a connection.

I just don't understand why Marvel would go through the trouble of referencing an insignificant quote from an insignificant comic that 99.999% of viewers won't pick up. Maybe a couple of borrowed lines from Civil War in Captain America 3 is likely, in fact I'd actually think that would be a cool idea, but this is such a small little detail here, especially when "miracle" is an actual word that doesn't require a lengthy explanation.

When Strucker said "This is the AGE OF..." and he took a small pause before saying "miracles", for half a second I thought "Age of Ultron ? NO WAY !?"

Oh, miracles. Yeah, that's good too.

@TheFamousJMC Nothing against that, but i'm thinking more of a cover of "Age" of Seventeen, complete with a strong German accent, a blonde wig and dance moves ala Mick Jagger.

Damn, seeing the fan reaction to the IM3 twist, I think we'd have riots in the streets if they'd do that !

Stan Lee says' "Superheroes in New York, give me a break" in his Avengers cameo....

Still not sure how they will bring The Inhumans into the MCU, can't wait to hear some announcements.... The term "miracle" could fit, especially because of the role of the Terrigen Mist

So you found that Dr Strange had used the word miracle... And wrote an article about it... Frick!!!
