Kevin Feige Says AVENGERS 3 Might Be Right For The CIVIL WAR Storyline

During the "Meet the Filmmakers" event in London, Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige says Civil War, [arguably]the preeminent Marvel story line of the last decade might be right for Avengers 3.

Avengers Assemble

A while back, the Captain America screenwriters teased that they would have a relationship with Howard Stark and Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger so that if there was ever a movie based on the Civil War story line Cap could turn to Tony and say "I knew your father." Now we have words from the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe which at least acknowledges that Civil War is definitely on the table in terms of being adapted into a feature film.

Feige also offered this update on Luke Cage and Black Panther. Looks like the two secret movies Marvel is working on won't be either of these guys. Feige also updates a few other characters and topics---

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. In The Avengers, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man in May 2008, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August 2011 and New York City in September 2011. The film was converted to 3D in post-production.

The Avengers is scheduled for release on May 4, 2012 in the United States in 2D and 3D.

I would love to see a movie about the Civil War. I would cry seeing Captain America die in a movie, lol.

After Avengers 3 I would love to see a Avengers vs X-Men movie!

[frick] that noise. Civil War was terrible. Avoid that story at all costs. There are dozens of far more interesting Avengers stories to tell than that shit pile.

marvel needs to introduce more characters or buy all their character rights back i.e spider-man,fantastic four, daredevil & x-men.

Civil war doesn't work without the rest of the Marvel Universe.

Spider Man is a must

No, no, no, no. Don't give us something we have already seen. Keep the movies fresh, don't rehash popular story lines from the comics. I think Civil would make a fantastic animated direct to blu ray series. But there are way too many moving parts, and a movie would just be a watered down version.

Let Joss come up with unique stories to tell.

Spider-Man is definitely needed, as is Wolverine and Fantastic Four. Plus, it's impossible to do the story justice in a single film.

@Denn1s or Spider-man, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, & Blade. Not sure how good a Civil War would be if you take out Wolverine, Spider-Man, & Daredevil. Kinda eliminates Captain Americas team.

Awesome. This actually comes in turn with exactly what I've been thinking. This is why I think Marvel needs to buy X-men and Spider-man. Even if they spent for the whole bundle of their characters 10 billion, it would more than easily make up that in a few years especially with the other characters to tie into the universe.

Guys. After I see the Avengers I will probably do an Editorial on how this could work. So keep a heads up on that. :)

this would be really cool to see - perhaps having the different viewpoints performed instead of simply being on the page would make iron man's position much more justified as in the story i couldn't help but root for cap the entire time

it kinda looks like they are hinting at something similar to this in avengers: earth's mightiest heroes with "alone against a.i.m." and stark's talk with maria so i hope they find a way to do it while keeping each version unique

@welldrawn - me! i mean it made sense but it still felt kinda crappy

hmmm. I think Civil War is too big for the MCU. Are they going to introduce more characters in the sequel?

Don't do it until the rights to Daredevil, Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four revert back to Marvel.

TheAmazingSpidey63 - 4/20/2012, 12:13 PM
Hmmmm, well, for one, I don't think that they should do a 'Civil War' storyline with Avengers 3. Just what @marvel72 just said, Marvel needs all of their characters introduced to the big screen and they need to buy back some of their character rights (and that'll take quite q while for them to do that). And for them to do such a movie like this, that'll take a BIG cast, lots of money, and a director who can take up this challenge. I wouldn't mind them doing an animated movie of 'Civil War,' but not on the big screen. I'm sure that there are a lot of storylines that they could go with for Avengers 3. Maybe they could have The Avengers 3 movie with a plot/storyline that involves the Masters of Evil. We shall see sooner or later.

Stay EPIC, my friends!

@ headlopper

you're welcome,oh yeah i read uncanny x-force 22 intresting seeing fantomex without his face,i believe his got an healing factor so it shouldn't prove a problem.

@ teabag

acts of vengeance is a classic storyline i would love to see but loki was the mastermind behind getting all the villains together,do you think marvel would use loki again,i think they should just use him in thor 2 & 3 not as the main villain but he should definetly feature.

Please god no Civil War in Avengers. Without X-Men, FF, Spidey, DD, Punisher and many others it would suck and if taken to the extent the comics did, it would also suck. That initiative thing to put government controlled super teams in every state lost me.

Teabag, I LOVE Acts of Vengeance, but I was really hoping they'd do it for Avengers 3.

There is the possibility that the two studios(Fox & Disney/Marvel) could agree on a profit sharing contract and collaborate together to make it happen(Civil War) despite conflicting property ownership's.

Hey, greed is a powerful motivator.

I think that adding two, maybe three, (Ant-Man, Wasp & Dr. Strange) to Guardians Of The Galaxy to face SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Thanos in Avengers 2 could be a great direction. Add a couple more to te rosta come Avengers 3 and Civil War could be a great possibility.

Seems like something very tough to pull off without a severe influx of new characters. I also don't want to see these new movies become too politically focused.

maskman0 - 4/20/2012, 12:17 PM
You spent so many years getting all these characters together on the big screen, and now you plan to have them fight each other?

What's Thor and Asgard position in Civil War? I'm sure Thor isn't going to be a robot.

Do masters of evil, acts of vengence, Ultron, Galactic Storm, Coming of Galactus, Kang, Doom, Atlantis Attack, Thanos, etc... Not that mess Mark Millar vomitted out.

Civil war would be really hard to do in one movie and not have it feel rushed. Unless they build up the story line in all the individual character movies before and have Avengers 3 be the big fight. Wonder if they would kill off cap

Acts of vengence. Loki teams up all the villains and have to fight heroes that they never faced before or unfamiliar with. Wolverine fought Tiger shark, Strange Ran into Juggernaut and Cytarak dimension, doom brain washed c list villains were knocked out by baxter building security system, Mandarin fought the Avengers. It was an interesting concept. In fighting with the villains as well (Magneto wanted to kill the Red Skull, knowing he's a Nazi)
