Kevin Feige Weighs In On The Avengers' First Set Image, First Day of Filming & More!

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, the head honcho of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige briefly discussed the Joss Whedon-directed highly-anticipated film The Avengers. The transcription courtesy of SuperSAINT, doting on the first set image depicting of cast chairs, the "surreal" first day of filming, as well vaguely on what the superhero ensemble will explore, check out what Feige had to say.

"We wanted to do a tease of an image - Let people know that the movie has started filming, and it's real. We thought it would be fun to have the cast chairs -- that's the big selling point of the movie, that these people are together on the set" (apparently chairs for Hawkeye, Fury + Widow are there, but "just out of frame")

"I did get to New Mexico on the 1st day of shooting. Right off the bat, it involved a couple of characters who'd been in other movies meeting for the first time" he recalls. "It was a little surreal, realising it was actually happening"

"Iron Man and Thor have defeated threats, and in a couple of months Captain America will hold his own - So what in the world could they go up against that requires all of them to get together for a challenge that they may or may not succeed against?" Feige won't confirm or deny what that threat is...

"Everyone has more than their own fair share of screen time, interaction and arcs in this film - we didn't want anyone to get a short shrift - it's a big story and big movie. Everyone has room to have their own stories, but the primary one is their interaction together. That's where the fun really is!"

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston & Stellan Skarsgård, the film releases May 4, 2012!

@ Hellsing - I hope so. so far there's been almost nothing in the way of set photos or even the actors in costume. but I guess they could be waiting to do something like a BIG reveal...

as for the villain, I was kinda pulling for the Leader. He was clearly set up in the Incredible Hulk. And if Leader and (wishful thinking) Red Skull teamed up with Loki and if Hulk was, in-fact, controlled by Loki, well I'd say that would be probably cause to assemble a team like the Avengers, wouldn't you?

OMG I think I wasn't this excited for a movie since I heard from LoTR.

Damn, I just hope they release a 4-hour movie or so. We REALLY don't need another rushed movie like Thor (Fantastic #1 CBM imo, but undeniably short).

Good to hear, but I won't take it as a sure thing until I see it. All caution aside, this is going to be so exciting! I can't wait to see that first trailer!

I still can't believe that this is actually going to happen, I mean seriously a super team movie with a cast made up of the original actors, wow I really hope the word does not end in 2012. Let me see this then end.

Joss Whedon TV shows are canceled early for a reason. When I sat around years ago and thought about who would make a great Avengers movie, I was not thinking to myself, "OH WOW! I bet the guy who does Buffy the Vampire slayer on the WB will be great!"

I still stand by the only reason Buffy was such a hit is because SMG is hot as hell. If you like Buffy that much, you might as well enjoy a romp through Twilight-land as well.

Still, his comics are alright and I hold out hope he won't screw The Avenger's up.

@Intruder- Just watching that vid from serenety that you posted reassures me Whedons right for the job. The cgi is detailed for such a small budget, the action is... action packed and the overall feel to it is a little gritty without needing to be dark. Yep, whedon can most deff handle the avengers.

@level1paladin- his shows also get critically praised for a reason.
