No Plans For A Marvel Movie From Pixar!

Pixar's Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter reveals that there are no plans, and pretty much no chance, of there ever being a team-up between them and Marvel for a superhero project...

When it was announced that Disney were buying Marvel, many thought this might mean we'd see some sort of collaboration between the studio behind the likes of Toy Story 3 and Up and the comic book company. Well, apparently not! Here is an excerpt from the report over at IGN Movies.

There's always fanboy chatter about how they'd love to see Pixar take on a Marvel project. Have there been any real talks of doing that? There's been a lot of rumors.

No, Pixar, we are -- Disney has been great. Bob Iger is phenomenal. I'm Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation as well, and with Pixar it's like, "Keep doing what you're doing, guys." It's a filmmaker-driven studio. All of the ideas come from the filmmakers themselves. Working with the filmmakers on ideas.

So there probably wouldn't be any kind of chance of seeing that kind of team-up then?

No, not at Pixar. We have The Incredibles, so we've done superheroes here ourselves and so we have that kind of history with Brad Bird doing The Incredibles.

Well, that's something of a shame! While I'd rather see Marvel's characters get the live action treatment, seeing Pixar bring some of the iconic superheroes to life could have been amazing! Be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

So no Marvel movies from Pixar. Good or bad? I say good. In a way. They can focus on what they do best and let others handle Marvel. And if you guys want Pixar superheroes, we have The Incredibles like they said above. And maybe, if we are lucky, we'll get a sequel someday. And maybe even a new original superhero movie from them. Wouldn't that be even better then a Marvel movie?

I say they are on the right track. And I sure hope they don't derail.

Pixar isn't Disney's only computer animation studio. Chicken Little, Meet The Robinsons, Bolt, and Tangled were all dne by Walt disney Animation Studios. It's still possible for there to be a CG Marvel movie put out by Disney. Likely? Probably not any time soon. But still possible.

I love Pixar, good thing they are not involved with Marvel to make a film. Like they said, they should stick to what they are doing.

I sort of think that this is a shame. I want to see Pixar release orginal films but I really think with the right story they could do some amazing things with Marvel heroes. Many people on this forum have stated that DC rules the animation side of comic book adaptations and I believe they are in general right. However Pixar is one of the most consistant studios around and it would be mouth watering to see what they would do with it.

Pixar might not, but I wouldn't rule out seeing a feature from Walt Disney Animation, or even a direct-to-dvd flick from DisneyToons Studios.

(Yes, Disney has multiple animation companies. No, I don't know why.)

cool so why instead of doing a sequence of their weakest movie,(cars)they dont work on a part2 for the incredibles???
we waited enough and of all of their movies it was the one who had a real good hook for a sequel.
cars2??meh...

The only way that we'll ever see Spider-Man or X-Men make it into the MCU is if Marvel teams up with Disney Animation to create animated movies for them. Not crappy straight-to-dvd movies. I'm talking about epicly animated theatrical releases. Fox and Sony are NEVER going to give up the rights to make live-action action movies.

I think they have the right reasons for not taking on Marvel characters, but this is probably the only medium that the Fantastic Four would have worked in.

I'm bummed by this. How cool would it be to go see The Avengers
& before it starts, there's a 5 min (Pixar) Ant-Man short?
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 4/28/2011, 12:48 PM
@sinchsw

That's not true. The Fantastic Four can work well in the live-action medium. If done right, the sight of Galactus would cause people to piss their pants. Seriously, I wasn't even familiar with Galactus or the rest of the Marvel Universe when I saw the following video, and I nearly shat myself in fear when big G showed up.

If they wanted to start doing super hero movies in CGI, then they should just get the people who worked on FF: Advent Children. That movie was the tits.

I was hoping to see something from the Rocketeer in Captain America as a fan nod from Joe Johnston since they could probably let him get away with it now. Now that I think about it, those Hydra agents look an awful lot like the Nazi Rocketroopers... WIN!

Disney should at least start producing some better quality Marvel CGI or animated films even if they are not from Pixar. They make some really great direct to DVD movies or better yet TV shows.

although, come on, did Pixar not already make one of the top 5 superhero movies ever? the Incredibles was the best FF movie anyone was ever going to make

Actually everything that Pixar has made so far have been ideas stemmed from a meeting involving the Pixar team before Toy Story 1. So although Disney obviously gets the final say in what movies they are going to fund, as of now Pixar pretty much does run their own sh!t. That said, I'm sure if Disney really wanted a Marvel/Pixar movie there would be a Marvel/Pixar movie, just not while Pixar is hot doing their own thing. Anyway, Marvel should see how their Avenger experiment turns out first, I'm sure it'll do fine and all, they should just keep all their characters in live action untill after the whole thing is done.
