Stellan Skarsgard Discusses How Working On Thor Differs From The Avengers!

In yet another interview, 'Erik Selvig' actor Stellan Skarsgård now essentially dishes on how working with Kenneth Branagh on THOR differs from Joss Whedon and The Avengers!

Further promoting the DVD & Blu-ray release of Thor, 'Professor Erik Selvig' actor Stellan Skarsgård also chatted with Hollywood further dropping tidbits involving his reprisal in next summer's highly-anticipated flick The Avengers. And this time around discussing how working on Thor with Kenneth Branagh differs from director Joss Whedon, read on below.

Was your character always that through-line? Because we have that tag scene at the end that brings you into the next part. Was that always the idea?
That was not an original idea. Whenever you sign up for Marvel, you sign up for a number of films. But they were not ready with the plot of Avengers when we shot Thor. So, they came to me last fall, I think, and said, 'We’re thinking about bringing [Professor Eric] Selvig into The Avengers as well. Will you do it?' And then I met with Joss [Whedon], and saw some pages, and here I am.

How are these experiences different for you, from working on Thor to going into this movie?
"Well, it’s a much smaller role here, so I didn’t have that much material to do. Also, we are a number of actors trying to share screen time. And we all want to be in the center of attention. No, but it’s very different. Of course, Joss’ temperament is different from Kenneth’s. He comes from a different background. He’s not an actor and he doesn’t come from Shakespeare. He comes from comic books, and that world. But it’s lovely to work with him and I think he’s doing a very good job."

How are Joss' ways of directing different from Kenneth’s?
Well, he gets happier faster than Kenneth did.

He loves it all?
No, not quite. But he doesn’t do many takes. He’s sort of like, 'Yeah, yeah! That’s exactly what I need! I’m happy.'

Is it drastically different from how you were playing Eric in the first film?
I’m under Loki’s spell, which means I can play [him] as weird as I want.

Was that fun?
"I appreciated the liberty.

Also, even though we've got a descent look at Jeremy Renner suited up on-set, I recently stumbled across this foreign promo featuring an old, but full, look at Hawkeye; whose ironically revealed to have scenes with Skarsgard.

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki Laufeyson), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

The stuff in portuguese is interesting but the information it shows makes The Avengers seem shallow and thats exactly what i am worried about

I barely remember this guy in Thor because his character was so forgetable he did good in the role but it is nothing special. Looking forward to the Avengers tho.

Big difference between Kenneth Branagh and Joss Whedon? One of them has directed over a dozen major motion pictures. The other one - not so much.

Gerrit, that's clearly a business presentation, showing the key points and target information, probably for merchandising. That's a crude and direct wayto detect opportunities.

ANY comicbook movie would have a similar marketing description.

It reads:

KEY POINTS
==========
Great fanbase
Stabilished franchise
Teamwork
Aspirational
Global resource
Superhero
Action
Great Marvel Studios gain (not sure of what it means, probably explained in later slides)
Great casting
Epic sized

TARGET
======
6-11 year boys
Pre-teenagers
Teenagers
Adults

Aklash, i know its nothing to be taken too seriously, but the idea of The Avengers is so hard to pull of that i don't know if the movie will be as good as i think it will be or if i'm too excited about it too judge it more properly. People i know, more regular movie-viewers, aren't really confident about this.

@marverweiner - true! Lol, I should've written some *viagra* or *cialis* in the middle of the text!

@gerrit - yeah, I understand it, but regular moviegoers are algo getting pretty used to superhero flicks, if we consider the grossing they're making. And just like the sequels usually have a larger fan base and make more money, I think we can consider this movie a form of sequel of thor, IM, Hulk and caps to the public, and they'll certainly watch it if well marketed.

As for the quality, we can only hope Marvel Studios keeps the good work and deliver us a nice, solid, entertaining movie :)

ever since there's the whole aliens business (guys in mo-cap suits on set), i've grown more concerned about this movie ending up as a kiddie, or a strictly for the fanboys type of deal. i just don't want The Avengers to make my wife (general audience) go "meh," like she did watching GL, Thor and CA:TFA. she did get hooked on X-M:FC though, but, at the end, she thought it was just okay.

PS: then again...I too went "meh" watching GL.
