BATGIRL Moving Forward WIth BIRDS OF PREY & BUMBLEBEE Scribe Christina Hodson Attached To Pen The Script
Despite losing Joss Whedon earlier this year, it looks like Batgirl remains very much a priority for Warner Bros. and DC Films as they've just brought onboard a new writer. Come check it out!
While Joss Whedon's departure in late February essentially left the Batgirl movie in a state of flux for the better part of these last few weeks, it appears as though Warner Bros. has decided to continue moving forward with the project rather than throwing it on the scrap heap with so many of their other potential DC adventures.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has officially resumed development of the Batman spinoff and they've now enlisted Christina Hodson to pen the script. Batgirl will tell the story of the most popular iteration of the character, Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon, who was played by Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons in Justice League.
Hodson wrote Paramount's upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, which is due out in theaters in December, and her past credits include a pair of thrillers: Shut In and Unforgettable. She also recently completed the script for the Harley Quinn-centric Birds of Prey spinoff, which reportedly features Batgirl, so she does already have experience writing the character. However, the status of the aforementioned Birds of Prey remains uncertain at best, but some sources are reporting that the script has been well-received and is currently being shopped to potential directors.
