We've been treated to a lot of intriguing photos from the set of Batgirl over the past 24 hours or so, all of which have given us a first look at the "new" DC Extended Universe.
The Flash is going to give this world the "Flashpoint" treatment, with Michael Keaton's Batman replacing Ben Affleck's Dark Knight, and, if recent rumours are to be believed, the introduction of new Justice League as well. We've already seen hints that Black Canary will be a key player in the DCEU moving forward, while Batman once having a Robin is obviously significant on a number of levels (there have already been rumblings Batgirl will lead to that long-overdue Nightwing movie).
Now, it looks like we can add another rogue to this version of Gotham City: Hugo Strange.
Strange is a brilliant but disturbed psychologist with an obsessive vendetta against Batman. In addition to being one of The Dark Knight's earliest foes, preceding even the Joker and Catwoman, he is also one of the first and few to successfully deduce that Batman and Bruce Wayne are one and the same.
There's nothing to suggest we'll see any of that in Batgirl, but if we pay a visit to Arkham Asylum, then it's feasible we'll see Strange in some form. Ultimately, that poster in the Tweet below might just be an Easter Egg, but the HBO Max movie is clearly going to feature heaps of world-building.
Batgirl is expected to be released on HBO Max sometime later this year.
