THE 100 Actress Lindsey Morgan Has Reportedly Auditioned For The Role Of BATGIRL - UPDATE

Is Lindsey Morgan in line to play Barbara Gorgon in Warner Bros.' upcoming Batgirl movie? That remains to be seen, but The 100 actress has seemingly auditioned for the role at any rate. More past the jump.

Despite director Joss Whedon stepping away from the project, Warner Bros. is still moving ahead with a solo Batgirl movie. Christina Hodson was recently brought on board to work on the script, and now we may have some news on one of the actresses in line to play Barbara Gordon.

According to a Brazilian fan-account for Lindsey Morgan, the 28 year-old The 100 actress has revealed that she auditioned to play the DC Comics heroine at a convention and is now waiting to hear back from the studio.

The Tweet roughly translates as: “Present at Convention Space Walkers 3 in Paris, Lindsey Morgan said she auditioned to play Batgirl in theaters and is waiting only for the producers.”

We only have the one source for this, so don't put too much stock in it until we find out more - however, it is worth noting that there has previously been speculation that Morgan might have been linked to the role thanks to this Tweet that she sent out soon after the movie was announced.

Whoever winds up donning the cap 'n cowl of Batgirl, she will most likely debut as the character in the upcoming Birds of Prey movie which will be helmed by Cathy Yan.

UPDATE: Turns out this is old news! A website called Skript actually first reported it over two months ago, so while there's a chance that Morgan is still a contender for the role, this makes it a lot more unlikely.

@superbigguy32 - I see her for the first time in this picture and I instantly fell in love with her eyes. She can play whatever hero she wants to play, I'd watch it.

Dear Warner Bros,

Figure out Batman before you make Batgirl and Nightwing movies. Make a decision on Affleck. Announce a release date for Matt Reeves’ Batman movie. Come up with a plan for Batman. Once you have a Batman plan (that doesn’t suck) then make Batgirl, Nightwing, et al.

@santoanderson - I agree completely with this and it is strange to hear Batgirl is higher on WB's to do list over Batman. I'd introduce Nightwing and Batgirl in the Batman movie and then if people are asking for solo Nightwing or Batgirl movies, go from there, but not before Batman.

@santoanderson -

You don't need Batman for Batgirl.
1. He's been active for 20 years, so we know she's out there.

2. She was not selected by Bruce Wayne to train or don the bat costume. She did it independently.

3. Hence a movie about a young woman living in Gotham who knows about the Bat and is wearing his costume when she intervened in a crime, and decides to keep on doing it doesn't need a Batman film to establish that.

@santoanderson - P.S. Most importantly, once you have everything in order for Batman's section of the DC Films Cinematic Universe and you've set your course, DO NOT DEVIATE FROM IT and leave your creative teams ALONE. You failed to do this with Zack Snyder's plan for the DC Films Cinematic Universe, cracked under pressure, "fixed" Justice League and the DC Films Cinematic Universe is a mess thanks to your irresponsibility. If your filmmaker has a plan, don't fire them when one half of all audiences don't like it, especially when the reasons they don't like it are based on misinterpretation. If you do so, you might as well throw in the towel, because no one will go to your Trailer Park Cinematic Universe movies.

@Battabing -

Good observation. Matt Reeves is taking his time shaping his take on the DCEU Batman
and just because WB isn't telling us every detail, doesn't mean they can't blow everyone's
mind when they finally reveal the new Batman series.

It's funny how some fans can speak about WB having "cracked under pressure"
and not leaving its creative teams alone on their movies while bellyaching about
a creative team (Matt Reeves) being left alone on its movie.

WB (and Matt Reeves) could very well have their Batman plans solidified
and set to announce at Comic-Con this summer.

That could be the reason they are now quietly casting about for a Batgirl
actress.

It could also be as you stated and they don't need to have Batman plans set in stone
to push what will be a female-centric franchise where it's much more important how
the Batgirl actress compliments the film's star, Margo Robbie, then how she works with
a given Batman actor or take on that character.

BAD idea to do a stand-alone Batgirl film until DC/WB builds a cohesive base for their universe, which necessarily needs to start with BATMAN being properly rebooted. Get Batman rebooted, get Superman rebooted, quickly get Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Shazam in in the mix, and build your base around those four key characters, then start getting the secondary characters like Batgirl their own film.
