Fox Moving Ahead With GOTHAM TV Series; Will Focus On "Detective" Gordon Before BATMAN

We're all extremely familiar with Commissioner Jim Gordon and his relationship with the Caped Crusader, but a new television series being developed by Warner Bros. and aired on Fox, will explore his time as a detective in Gotham long before he ever met Batman. Read on for details!

Just minutes after the first episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aired on ABC, Warner Bros. have released a piece of news - via Deadline - which should have little to no trouble in stealing the spotlight! In what is being described as "one of the biggest drama deals this season", Fox has nabbed the rights to Gotham and have already given the show - from Warner Bros. and Mentalist creator Bruno Heller - a series commitment. However, rather than focusing on Batman (who will NOT be a part of the series) or any of his superpowered allies, the show will tell the story of a young Commissioner James Gordon. While it's likely that we'll see some familiar faces from the DC Universe, Gotham will feature a young Gordon as a detective before he meets the Caped Crusader and takes control of the police department. The seemingly official logline states that it will tell, "the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous" So, who wants to bet that this will be somehow linked to Batman/Superman?

WHAT? Arrow, Flash and now Gotham? So we are going to have 3 different universes with the DCCU?

Well, at least it isnt on the CW
Wish Vince Gilligan would develop a comic book property for TV. That would be INSANE!

I think that if all these shows are part of the DCCU it has the potential to become a big mess .

@JokerMask - it sounds like only 2 different universes so far. Arrow and Flash will occupy the same universe - if the flash show gets picked up for a full series treatment, i imagine it will still have arrow cameos and crossovers.
but with gotham moving to fox, it's becoming increasingly less likely that both tv universes will connect to the new DCCU. this could complicate things.

@Jokermask
Arrow and Flash are in the same universe. They may also be in the Man Of Steel universe too, we won't find out till they do Justice League or see references.

"Aired on Fox"? It may "air" on Fox. I don't know that it will steal any thunder from SHIELD. What a statement. Perhaps on this site a little.

I really hope that this ties into what inevitably has been established with Man of Steel and I really hope Arrow falls into that universe, too.

This is definitely surprising. I'm starting to be sure that Arrow, Flash, Gothem, and Batman/Superman will all link up now. Really the only thing that makes sense.

Meh. I wanted a Gotham Central show with ties to the DCCU and an ocasional guest spot by Gordon (or Harvey Dent). I honestly don't care about a Gordon prequel. It probably won't be a part of the DCCU. Man of Steel takes place when Bruce is 40. If this show follows a young Gordon, I doubt it will contradict anything from the movies, as it would happen 30 years earlier.

Unless they do a young Gordon show and set it in present day. That would be idiotic. But it doesn't really matter. If it's good, it will last only one season with terrible ratings. If it sucks, I'll ignore it.

So stupid!! Let the Nolan crap die already.... And stop being reactionary to Marvel.... Who the F cares about a Gotham series pre superheroes?

God damn WB is F-ing stupid.
They have so much at their disposal and can set the standard... But no. Foret any risks when they can just come crawling in second place to marvel all the time by being reactionary.

WB needs new leadership

Why not just spend a little more and do GCPD?

Batman will bring in viewers. Outright telling people that Batman will not be a part of the show seems like a bad move.

God dam its going to be confusing if all these shows and movies are in different universes
