Currently Paul Thomas Anderson is garnering a lot of well deserved praise for his latest film The Master, which has been praised by critics and moviegoers alike. Anderson has always been at the top of my list when it comes to directors that I'd like to see takeover the Batman franchise after Christopher Nolan so I am especially interested in his thoughts on Nolan's trilogy and his interest in blockbusters in general.
I’ve never really been asked to do [big tentpole blockbusters]. You look at what Christopher Nolan did with Batman, that’s like the meeting of the highest level of artistic skill & a kind of commerciality and appeal to a wide range of people which is what anybody would want. It’s kind of unparalleled actually, and they don’t come to me with those. And that’s alright.

Seems almost criminal that someone as talented as Anderson hasn't been offered a comic book movie, let alone any tentpole films thus far. I still think Warner Bros., a company that doesn't have a reputation of being cheap with directors, like Marvel, will make Anderson a sizable offer. They were able to woo Chris Nolan from the land of Indie films so they could do the same with Anderson.
The Dark Knight Rises will be available on DVD and Blu-ray December 4th. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.
