Producer Confirms That Superman And Batman Will NOT Be In The Same Movie Universe!

On Whether Batman And Superman Will One Day Share The Same Movie Universe:

"No. That may be in somebody's mind but right now the Batman lives in his world and the Superman lives in his world. Those stories are those stories and we haven't thought beyond each individual picture."

On Whether The Third Batman Movie Will Indeed Be The Last One:

"Well, I think that Chris Nolan has said that he wanted to make a trilogy and this is a trilogy. As far as we all know, this is it. This is the trilogy. The Dark Knight Rises is the third part of what Chris created with Batman Begins and we're not looking past that. I've said this about Chris before: I've never known Chris to do anything but focus on the movie he's making. He gets completely immersed in the movie he's doing and I know that all he's thinking about right now when it comes to Batman, the Dark Knight Rises, is making it the best movie he can. He's not thinking, "will there be another one?" And he's already said, in his mind, it's a trilogy. So I think he's just focusing on making this the best he possibly can and that's it."

On How Christopher Nolan Is Coping With Working On Both Batman And Superman:

"It's a huge workload, but there's a way we've been talking about how to make it work. Hopefully, there will be a little bit of time in-between the start of production on both of them. Right now Dark Knight Rises is coming out in the summer of 2012 and Superman is coming out in the winter of 2012. So hopefully -- and we're just at the beginning phases of both of them. We haven't even entered official pre-production on either one of them -- there will be a little bit of room. They're both going to be long shoots. I'm sure there's going to be some overlap, but hopefully there'll be as little overlap as possible."

On Whether The CGI Superman Suit Rumours Were True:

"You know, one of the things that you probably know about me and us working on this movie is that the rumors are the rumors and when we have something to say, we'll say it. Until we do, there's nothing to say."

For the life of me, I do not understand why the powers that be at DC/Warner Bros. think it's such a bad idea that their heroes share a cinematic universe. Marvel seems to be doing just fine with their Avengers plan, and from the look of things so far, it's going to be awesome sauce on a seriously grand scale. Maybe I'm in the minority here (but I doubt it), but wouldn't a Justice League movie be just as epic? Why, DC, why must you let me down?

BULLSHIT!!!

SUPERMAN & BATMAN are in the DC UNIVERSE don't matter what any producer says haha!

Just wait till the JLA MOVIE!

Probably cos Nolans Batman is gonna die - or at least be 'complete' by the end of the third Batman film.

No point in having a 'shared universe' if there is no one to share it with.

Plus who would want a 'Nolanlite' Batman after he has finished his story anyway.

Quite like the idea of him just concentrating on Superman without any other issues effecting the story.

I guess they could do a GL reference maybe in the upcomming Superman flick tho.

Nolan does seem very precious of his Batman creation.

Sorry LEE, but if you think that you'll see a JLA movie anytime in the next decade, you're living in a dream world mate! :P You cant get a more reliable source than the producer of both movies after all!

"We haven't thought beyond each individual picture."

As unfortunate as this news is, it's proof that DC and Warner Bros are as bad as Fox when it comes to making an effort to keep the fans happy. That quote I've posted above tells me that they have NO plans to ever cross these movies over. No Superman/Batman, no Green Lantern/Flash...stick with Marvel Studios and you cant go wrong!

MAKE MINE MARVEL!!!

'Nuff said. :)

I'm totally fine with not integrating Nolan's Batman into a shared DCU, as long as they start to consider it once we get a second Batman reboot. It just makes sense to eventually do it. The Justice League is my favorite superhero team of all time. If I got to see a JL movie in my time, I could die a happy man. :)

JOSH @ WB made TDK, WATCHMEN, SUPERMAN 1 & 2 and so on!

They are NOTHING like FOX lmao!

Most of DC is pure GOLD!

"We haven't thought beyond each individual picture."

Means they WILL be connected.

As soon as AVENGERS is out watch for the JLA movie it'll come and blow that away!

(Even tho Avengers will be awesome)

A shared universe is good only to mess up the work of writers and directors.

I can understand the passion for creating a cinematic DC movie world but I can also understand why Warners/DC are reticent.

It's a difficult thing to pull off successfully (Ironman II proved that)and it would only be necessary if they had a planned JL or crossover films. Those are MAJOR ambitions and require a whole movie studio of their own.

Luckily for Marvel they have that - with the reason being to set up their own cinematic universe. They are creating their own cannon which is incredibly difficult and ambitious to do within a movie industry.

And if The Avengers turns out to be a major turkey then Warners will feel they have gone about it the right way. Ironman II shows how you can compromise a film and the main character if you feel you have to accomodate set-ups and pay-offs for other movies.

there goes the perfect chance for a shared universe, with GL coming out this summer. so, if a jla movie gets made, it will have its own continuity...

Great stuff Josh.

What a waste. Would it be so god damned hard to drop a line about another hero in a movie? Is it so impossible or detrimental to a Batman film to have a newsflash on the TV pertaining to Superman? I think they are really cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Maybe The Avengers will not be any good (although I doubt that) but at least Marvel is trying.

They could at least go as far as a Batman/Superman team up. I think that would be pretty cool, to see the two come together on the big screen. Gosh, I liked the two of them teaming up before the whole Avengers movie endeavors with Marvel. Maybe they refuse to go that route since Marvel is doing it first and they don't want to appear to be copycats. Oh well...all the luck to their solo films.
Xandera
Xandera - 1/5/2011, 7:56 AM
I agree that they have to meet up at some point on the big screen...
However I don't think you'll see it anytime soon... Marvel owns the big screen right now and will for at least the next decade... DC has a lot of catching up to do...
I hope DC does prove me wrong...

No to a CGI Superman costume.

Why is so difficult for WB to begin conceiving of a shared Universe? Surely they could at least devise a plan where these individual movies culminate in JLA movie? Even if that plan is never used, just some kind of forward thinking on WB's part would be interesting - in other words, a ROUGH contingency plan.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 1/5/2011, 7:58 AM
This is just leaving money on the table and I REFUSE to believe WB doesn't recognize that. They'll reboot batman again within 5 years and create a shared universe, ESPECIALLY if Avengers is a success. There's just too much money in play not to do it.

Just having to hammer it in for those who keep thinking there will be some shared universe.

It's not surprising they still have work to do when it comes to movies. Are they suppose to base all their plans om imitating something from Marvel that is not even guaranteed to work?
AlcoholicA
AlcoholicA - 1/5/2011, 8:08 AM
Could just be because I'm a Marvel fan, not knowing much about DC, but I just can't imagine how they could realistically, and by realistically I mean by the movie standards that Nolan has set, but realistically work together on a common foe. The villain is super(man)powered level and Batman would have to do recon or something secondary, or the villain is street level, and Superman would have to be rendered useless or weak somehow or else the movie would be over in 5 minutes. Like I said, I'm Marvel and haven't read the Supes/Bats team-ups, and don't know how they worked. But just going off of Nolan-verse, since it was first, I just can't see it happening. But Superman/Green Lantern would be the sh1t!

I AM A BIG DC FAN AND RIGHT NOW I JUST WANT ALL OF THEIR BIG HEROES TOO HAVE BIG FILMS LIKE THE GREEN LANTERN, SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL, AND THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. THEN AFTER WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE.

How the hell Batman can survive against Superman with his laser eyes on that first picture? Wear an armor like Iron Man dammit that won't break any of my suspension of disbelief.

Nolan must have realized that the reason unarmored Batman has any chance to fight Superman is through PIS, and he won't have any of that PIS on his movies. You want realistic, grounded world pick Batman. You want fantasy world pick Superman.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/5/2011, 8:15 AM
Christopher Nolan said this months and months ago, when it was announced that he would be doing Superman.

Nolan makes fantastic movies, but if he isn't willing to put Bats and Supes in the same universe, with all the other DC characters, then i'm sorry, but he's not the right guy for the job.

I mean come on. JLA with no Superman and Batman? give me a break...
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/5/2011, 8:16 AM
also, people want to know why the Clark Kent/Superman cameo was taken out of Green Lantern? This is the reason right here. [frick]ing Nolan...
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 1/5/2011, 8:17 AM
Superman should not be connected to Nolan's Batman, but DC is making a mistake if they choose to not connect any of these characters that they have. They seem blind to the possibilities.
marvel72
marvel72 - 1/5/2011, 8:18 AM
this is why dc sucks.

- they've got all their characters under one roof but they can't share the same universe.

- no chance of a "justice league" movie,at least you got "justice league xxx" coming out.

MARVEL RULES! why i hear you ask ?

-all their characters are all over place at different studio's,but guess what at least they're trying their best to do a shared universe with the characters they've got.

at least the dc fans can look forward to marvel's version of the "justice league"........THE F*CKING AVENGERS!

IronicMan
IronicMan - 1/5/2011, 8:23 AM
I really can't see Superman fitting into the incredible, gritty universe Nolan created for Batman. I could see the goofier heroes like GL and Supes in the same universe, but for JLA to work, they would need a lighter Batman, with more fantastic elements than what Nolan has established.

@CorndogBurglar

He's made two successful Batman movies one of which was broke records and people liked allot as long as the third movie has people satisfied he did his job he was not hired to do a Justice League movie so it's not like he is going against anything.

As for that JLA movie rumor without Superman and Batman it started here on this site I would not put much stock in it.

i think why DC is not trying to make JLA right now is because of marvel make the avengers, but beleve me this is gona happen i hope so.
