Production on Matt Reeves' The Batman will continue, despite a new lockdown ordered by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. With an uptick in coronavirus infections, Johnson announced additional restrictions that will run from November 5 through December 2, and possibly longer depending on the outbreak.
However, there will be some exceptions this time around that will allow filming to continue on the highly anticipated movie. Following Johnson's announcement, Parliament member Oliver Dowden took to social media to clarify what this second lockdown means.
"The changes mean people should [work from home] where possible," said Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. "But where this is not possible, travel to a place of work will be permitted - e.g. this includes (but not exhaustive) elite sport played behind closed doors, film & tv production, telecoms workers."
Naturally, The Batman falls under film production so the cast and crew should be able to continue shooting, barring any incidents or cases on the set. The Batman has already seen multiple delays in filming this year due to the coronavirus.
Production was halted back in March during the first wave and resumed in September. However, it was temporarily shut down again after the film's star Robert Pattinson reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. It picked back up two weeks later.
Multiple production delays and box office uncertainty forced Warner Bros. to delay the release of The Batman from October 1, 2021 to March 4, 2022. Hopefully, the film sees no additional production woes.
