The Batman has been forced to halt production in the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic, but fans remain excited to see Robert Pattinson as the new Caped Crusader and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. However, the cast could have looked very different, as Eiza Gonzalez was among those being considered for the role of Selina Kyle.
Asked by
The Hollywood Reporter whether she's able to tell herself not to get her hopes up when roles like that end up on her radar, Gonzalez admitted that it's easier said than done!
"Oh no, I suck at that," the
Bloodshot star replied.
"It’s impossible not to do that, especially when you get so far down the line. It’s part of why you’re so far down the line because you’re living and dreaming the character. For my prep for every role, I’m kind of a weirdo, especially when I’m already at the camera test stage or really deep into it. I will live and breathe the character."
"It is heartbreaking; it is always hard. You have to envision yourself in the role in order to see the role. You can’t have one foot in and one foot out. When I started my career, I was more like that, and I wouldn’t get that far. In a sense, it didn’t hurt as much, but I didn’t give it the best version of what I thought I could do. So, now I do, and I just go through the heartbreak afterwards."
Gonzalez would have been a fitting choice to play Catwoman in Matt Reeves' reboot, and she's someone fans definitely got on board with when her name first started doing the rounds.
Sadly, it wasn't meant to be, but it's not hard to imagine another big comic book movie role - better than Bloodshot - will come her way one day. We'll have to wait and see on that front, but it's clear to see that the actress gets passionate about the roles she's eyed for and then gives them her all.
Do you think she would have made a good Catwoman?
