Could The New THE BATMAN Trailer Have Shown Us The Movie's Ending?

DC FanDome brought us the highly-anticipated second trailer for Matt Reeves' The Batman. Looking a little more closely at it, is it possible that it showed us one of the film's last scenes?

One of the best things about being superhero fans is speculating about upcoming comic-book-related projects, and that is exactly what we're going to do here — this time courtesy of the Caped Crusader.

DC FanDome came to a close with a new trailer for The Batman, and it offered plenty of Dark Knight-centric action scenes, excitement, and glimpses of characters like Alfred and The Penguin.

However, there's something else the new look at the film may have given us: A glimpse at one of the movie's final scenes. Before we begin, though, it's important to stress that this is pure speculation based on the footage itself and trailer proclivities of the past. Now, without further ado, let's dive into our theory.

Catwoman and Batman's Apparent Goodbye

Batman-and-Catwoman-on-Rooftop

At one point in the trailer, we see Batman and Catwoman in what looks to be a building under construction. This sequence appears to be split into two parts. In the first, Catwoman taps Batman's arm before walking away from him. In the second, she caresses his face. This is the sequence we believe could be from one of The Batman's final moments.

We're not going to take the dialogue into consideration, since it's common for trailers to make lines from one scene appear like they are from another. Case in point, the moment in which Catwoman tells Bruce that she can take care of herself seems to be from a different scene, since we don't see actress Zoë Kravitz actually mouthing those words in the footage that's combined with the line.

The reason we think that this particular scene could be from the end of the movie has to do with Batman and Catwoman's relationship. The Batman's first trailer showed the two fighting each other, hinting at them starting out as adversaries. Given that, it's not unreasonable to assume that the movie will see their relationship develop. That's where the building-under-construction moment comes in, since it shows Selina and Bruce on much better terms than before, seemingly pointing to their dynamic evolving.

The way that Catwoman walks away from Batman appears to signify them saying goodbye to each other, which could be from the end of the movie. Firstly, due to the apparent development of their relationship, and secondly, due to Selina's role in the plot, which seems to be significant. As such, her saying goodbye to the Caped Crusader would — theoretically — be something better fitted for the end of the story.

Batman-and-Catwoman-Face-Image

There have been quite a few instances of superhero films having their closing scenes or moments from late in their third acts showcased in trailers, such as The Dark Knight RisesThe Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom. Granted, that's no indication of The Batman following the trend, but the examples do show precedent for comic-book films sharing pivotal shots from their final scenes in their promotional material.

So, is our theory correct? Ultimately, we will need to wait a little longer to see whether or not we were right. For now, it's just fun to speculate about what the movie will be like before it glides into theaters on March 4, 2022.

I thought the same thing. It does look like the end of a final battle with the sun rising.

@AmazingFILMporg - after rewatching the trailer, I think this scene is actually going to be when she betrays him. There’s a shot straight after she caresses his mask where she’s seen jumping off a building to the same sunset back drop, with the same surroundings (metal beams), leaving Bats to fight someone in the corner off screen.

Have a feeling this movie is going to nail the Batman/Catwoman relationship better than any movie before.

Phifer and Keaton are great but that version of Catwoman is mostly an original character in terms of her characterization.

Hathaway and Bale were cool but they didn't have much chemistry

It takes place in the third act, but it is not the end of the movie. The end of the movie is when the building comes crashing down, with Selina Kyle nowhere to be found.

That's not dirt.

The real big bad at the end of the movie is Gorilla Grodd.

I really don’t think they would’ve shown us as much of that scene as they have if it was the ending.
