THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Discusses The Parallels Between The Dark Knight And WFTPOTA's Caesar
War for The Planet of The Apes director Matt Reeves hasn't got to work on his Batman movie yet, but in a new interview he does shed some light on the "personal way" of approaching the character...
Matt Reeves is currently doing the press rounds for War for The Planet of The Apes, and hasn't even started working on Warner Bros.' new solo outing for The Caped Crusader, which is tentatively titled The Batman. Still, that hasn't stopped some interviewers asking him about his plans for the character.
While speaking to Comicbook.com, Reeves made it very clear that he's still in WFTPOTA mode and hasn't really given too much thought to The Dark Knight - however, the director does reveal that he is planning to take a "personal" approach, and says that he sees a parallel between Batman and his simian Apes hero.
Look, I’m just starting Batman because literally, [War for the Planet of the Apes], as I just said, we finished about a week ago and now we’re publicizing it. So, we haven’t even begun on Batman. For me, what’s always important is to try and find a personal way in. In that way, I do feel like I relate to actors. It’s about understanding emotionally, the way something is. I see this parallel between Caesar and Batman, really, which is this idea of these characters who are grappling with their own struggle and trying to do the right thing in an imperfect world and, so, I do really relate it to that kind of idea."
Most fans were already happy with Reeves taking over from Ben Affleck on this project, but the recent round of first reactions to War for The Planet of The Apes has added a whole new layer of excitement.
It'll probably be a while before Reeves begins to discuss The Batman is any great detail, but for the time being we can rest assured that the big-screen future of the iconic DC vigilante is in good hands.
