THE BATMAN Director Names Hush As The Character He'd Most Like To Incorporate Into The Batverse

Though he stresses that this is not necessarily the plan for the sequel, The Batman director has named Hush as the character from the comics he'd most like to incorporate into his "Batverse."

The Batman introduces new takes on several key villains and supporting players from the source material, including The Riddler, Catwoman, The Penguin and Jim Gordon, but if Matt Reeves gets the opportunity to helm a sequel, which other DC Comics character would he most like to see join them?

The director was asked that very question during a Twitter Q&A, and while he admitted that there are countless possibilities, he settled on Hush. "There are so many, and, I dunno... I think Hush is a really interesting one to do. I'll say Hush. But that doesn't mean that the next one will be Hush!"

Reeves stresses that sequel plans are in the very early stages, and while he has a lot of ideas for how to continue The Dark Knight's journey, Hush won't necessarily factor into the story.

Spoilers follow

If you've seen The Batman, you'll likely have noticed that the groundwork is actually laid for the introduction of Hush, aka Dr. Thomas Elliot. At one point, The Riddler exposes some dark secrets, revealing that Thomas Wayne played a part in the death of a journalist named Edward Elliot. While this could just be a coincidence, the word "hush" even flashes up on the screen at one point.

This may not mean very much, but given Reeves' fondness for the character, we wouldn't be surprised to see Hush track down his childhood friend in an attempt to take revenge for the death of his father in the next movie.

The end credit had a website with riddles and a video of the Thomas Wayne campaign video that has HUSH written on it and a voice whispering what sounds like "Elliott... shhh..." so I'm pretty sure he got the ok for planting seeds for Thomas Elliott aka HUSH.

How? Riddler took a lot from Hush. Interested to see how he does that.

@BlackBeltJones - I'm thinking its what I wrote above, or what your are kinda saying, maybe this Riddler is borrowing elements from HUSH. Riddlers mask is kinda HUSH like, so maybe this is Hush-Riddler.

@BlackBeltJones - Yeah they'd definitely be retreading a LOT of old ground if they did Hush. They'd pretty much have to create a new origin if they went with him in a sequel.

@Himura - exactly. I’m surprised somewhat that he said Hush given what he did with Riddler. But we know he seem to only want to tackle grounded villains, so he hasn’t much choice but to name the very few Batman has

I have no real plans to check this out in theatres anytime soon. Nothing from the marketing jumped out at me as unique or exciting and I'm still wondering how many Batmans and Jokers there are officially in DC/WB's jumbled mess of a "universe".

Off topic: Did these guys have a falling out or is Sebastian just joking here? https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/sebastian-stan-anthony-mackie-relationship-marvel-captain-america-4-winter-soldier-012442497.html

@tmp3 - It's kinda hard to catch sarcasm when it's just in text, without hearing the person's tone of voice or seeing their face imo.

I assumed it was, but who knows?

@Feralwookiee - Bro if you can’t detect sarcasm from that, then I’d have to assume you have trouble socially interacting at all in the real world

@tmp3 - Absolutely man. Been a problem all my life. I have pretty severe social anxiety and had that shit before it was even a thing lol
As far as "reading people...hell no. By default, I just assume everyone is totally full of shit just to be safe. 😜

If Hush is done, they should introduced at least one movie before

Such a cliche to introduce a character in a story where they are revealed as the villain

@dracula - eh? Not every villain has to have a post credits scene ala Marvel in a previous movie in order to appear in a sequel that is in its early planning stages

Love that Reeve was able to sow the seed for 3 potential villains during this masterpiece- Hush, J and Bane (by the existence of Venom)
