THE BATMAN Star Robert Pattinson On The Movie's Opening Shot: "It's So Jarring"

Robert Pattinson has revealed that he recently saw a rough cut of The Batman, and the actor says he felt the opening shot of Matt Reeves' reboot was "so jarring from any other Batman movie."

By all accounts, The Batman is going to be unlike any previous live-action take on the iconic DC Comics vigilante we've seen, with more focus placed on the title character's fractured psyche and status as the world's greatest detective. Now, star Robert Pattinson has reiterated just how different Matt Reeves' reboot is going to be by pointing out that the movie sets itself apart right from the opening scene.

While speaking to GQ, the Tenet actor revealed that he watched a rough cut of the film, and it sounds like Reeves' somewhat unconventional influences will be immediately evident.

“I watched a rough cut of the movie by myself. And the first shot is so jarring from any other Batman movie that it’s just kind of a totally different pace,” Pattinson said. “It was what Matt was saying from the first meeting I had with him: ‘I want to do a ’70s noir detective story, like The Conversation.‘ And I kind of assumed that meant the mood board or something, the look of it. But from the first shot, it’s, ‘Oh, this actually is a detective story.’"

Bat-fans should be very pleased to hear that The Dark Knight's detective skills will be highlighted, but Pattinson himself admits that he wasn't actually aware of the hero's less frequently-used moniker.

“I feel like an idiot, because I didn’t even know that Batman was the world’s greatest detective," he added. "I hadn’t heard that in my life before—but it really plays. Just ’cause there’s a lot of stuff where he’s in amongst the cops. Normally, when you see Batman he arrives and beats people up. But he’s having conversations, and there are emotional scenes between them, which I don’t think have been in any of the other movies.”

Pattinson's comments have understandably led to a lot of speculation about this opening shot, but he wasn't giving anything else away! The Batman hits theaters on March 4, so we don't have long to go before seeing it for ourselves.

Hope it’s an homage to either the eye ball shot from Psycho in the shower or the Crime Scene Photography Shot from In The Heat of the Night

Oh no, I hope nothing bad happens to Batman's parents in the opening shot of the movie.

Did I misread that, or is Batman gonna stop fighting bad guys and start getting to know them on a deep, emotional level? Are we gonna see Batman and Riddler kiss?

If I remember correctly his daughter Grail brought him back to life through the body of Superwoman and Alexander Luthor's newborn child.

@BlackBeltJones - maaaaan what are comics anymore? Lol

I feel like to write comics there's a code, and it's basically...

1) take a core concept of a character like a Superman or a Batman or a Spiderman.

2) take a butt load of acid and record your ramblings

3) somehow apply any vague concepts or ideas inspired from drug ramblings to Superhero core concept.

4) don't double check if it's a good idea... just make it!

I'm a bit of a whore for how Nolan opened his Bat films with the Bat logo graphic in the element or whatever of that film was about, and the music ques, then it faded into the opening shot.

My absolute favorite was The Dark Knight, the blue flame into that long zoom in shot of the building with the window shattering, all while Zimmers score perfectly sets the eerily suspenseful tone. We all knew the Joker was in the film but we had no idea the context yet, and that entire bank robbery reveal was masterful, and the pitch perfect opening to what I feel is still the best comic book FILM made to date.

Can you put that in writing? I'm sure the insurance companies in Gotham would appreciate it

If they decide to open with the Wayne murder I will laugh so hard!

99.99% sure they wont do that though. Would be hilarious though to hear all the people watching just moan and sigh in agony of seeing another recreation of it.

I’m guessing the opening scene is GPD investigating the murder scene with the guy with duct tape on his head and the shot where we see Batman walk into the room. They go over various scenarios replaying what could’ve happened. Almost Boondock Saints or Sherlock style where GPD has it all wrong and Batman schools them.
