This article contains mild spoilers for The Batman.
Catwoman is usually (in the modern era, at least) depicted as being bisexual in the comics, but we've yet to see the character's sexuality accurately represented on screen... until now?
Well, in The Batman, there is definitely a suggestion that Selina Kyle is or had been in a relationship with fellow Iceberg Lounge waitress Anika (she refers to her as "baby" several times, for one) even though she also has an obvious attraction to Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight, and star Zoe Kravitz took this to mean that her interpretation of Selina was a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
“That’s definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship,” the Kimi star told Pedestrian.tv, although director Matt Reeves was not so quick to commit to anything.
"I don’t think we meant to go directly in that way, but you can interpret it that way for sure," he added in a separate interview. "She has an intimacy with that character and it’s a tremendous and deep caring for that character, more so than a sexual thing, but there was meant to be quite an intimate relationship between them.”
Both the DCEU and the MCU have taken positive steps towards more representation in their movies over the past couple of years, and while this minor hint doesn't really count, there's always a chance Catwoman's bisexuality will be explored more openly in the inevitable sequel.
