Morgan Freeman Says Batman 3 Should Be The Last One!

While discussing RED, the actor has shared his thoughts on The Dark Knight's success and talks more about returning for Batman 3 but says he thinks that it should be the last in the franchise...

Michael Caine has already said that Batman 3 will probably be the movie he chooses to retire with and now Morgan Freeman has revealed that he thinks that it should be the final movie of the franchise! With Chris Nolan also having hinted at this being his finale with the Caped Crusader, a reboot for the character is looking more and more likely after 2012! Below, I've transcribed what Freeman said about Batman but to hear his thoughts on RED, you'll have to watch the video!

On What He Knows About Batman 3:

"Nobody's told me anything!"

On Whether He'll Be Back As Lucius Fox:

"I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a part in it."

On Whether He Was Surprised By The Success Of The Dark Knight:

"No. Batman Begins set the tone and I felt like it would come back strong and I think it'll come back equally strong this time."

On Starring In Future Batman Movies:

"In my opinion, stop it here. Don't let it die with number four. Not a lot of them last past three."

Batman 3 is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

No doubt Nolan will end the series by Batman 3, but the studio may have other plans for the franchise once Nolan is out of the way.

Nice find, Josh

Give the man a cigar! I totally agree :)

Get Snyder to helm The Dark Knight Returns with Bruce Willis after Nolan's third and last Batfilm!

but yeah Batman 3 is the end for Nolan but WB is no way going to let Batman died when it makes money for them. their will be more Batman with a different director.

@Shaman

Hell 2 the No to Bruce Willis, LEEE want him to be Nick Fury lol. Snyder would be too busy with Superman sequels lol :)

How about Avatar's Stephen Lang for Bruce Wayne/Batman in a TDKR movie?

Jazz- Seriously... how could you even remotely say no to a TDKR film helmed by Snyder??? You do realise that Snyder will probably film other films between Superman sequels, right? And why not Bruce Willis? He's in the right age range and is a very good action actor. Fits like a glove IMO.

TonyStarch- Love LANG, but his voice is a bit "light" i find. And his gaze has such an evil vibe to it, i'd love him to play a villain in a batfilm! He would have been an awesome Two-Face or Black Mask :))

Nolan should continue with the batman saga until the sixth movie! I would love to see how Nolan would introduce Robin. I hope Nolan's third installment of batman is epic!

like i said before LEEE want Bruce Willis to be Nick Fury lol. Snyder would be good for TDKR but i feel he will be too locked on Superman reboot sequels. Bruce Willis playing Batman feels wrong cause he cant grow hair and him wearing a wig looks strange on him IMO lol.

I think Nolan had it planned there would only ever be three from the beginning.

It's Nolan's universe - he'll kill off Bruce Wayne and then it will be someone else's turn.

I quite like that idea. It's nice to have a 'complete' story from beginning to end.

We will then have seen Batman 'born' save Gotham's soul and then die. :o)

I seriously doubt Bale would return after this without Nolan at the helm. DC would want to introduce Robin/Nightwing and the concept of "other superheroes" and I really don't think that's something he'd be interested in, especially since he's got no contractual obligations after this one.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 10/7/2010, 9:19 AM
I think that the third movie would be a good time for Nolan to move on (even though I'd be gutted to see that happen) but I'd be perfectly happy with him staying if he'd allow Batman to join the larger DC Universe instead of isolating him in the "Nolanverse". If not, make the fourth movie an The Incredible Hulk style reboot with a new cast and director. :)

@shaman: Well, he has two under his belt so far, I know they are different, but he maybe feels repetitive doing comicbook movies for the same company.

after batman 3 have zack snyder direct the dark knight returns with clint eastwood or ed harris as batman.

also dc should treat the batman franchise the same as the james bond franchise.

their shit loads of bond films, why not treat batman in the same way.

...I don't know how somebody would come with an interesting approach for a Batman movie in terms of a reboot.

It's not like the spiderman reboot. Sam did an intersting thing with the first 2, but as soon as I watched the 3rd I knew the reboot was coming because Venom is such an important character in the story and look at what happened.

Now, Cris have done a great job with Batman, so... it's kinda difficult to imagine first, another batman than Bale and another type of history. Maybe I'm being to fanatic of Nolan.... I don't know... you tell me

I love these interviews basically Freeman says i'm going to speculate even though i don't know anything about the next movie and i'm not technically sign for the movie either but its the last one even though i no nothing... It seems like such a waste to do a reboot he basically just begun to be Batman, they'll have a new mansion, new batcave, new bat suit probably, new Batmobile and maybe another kinda a vehicle like a jet or boat... Doing all that is either pulling out all the stops or putting all thats been building to waste... The Bond thing could be good done right but the problem with with treating it like Bond is they tried that before and look how it turned out different directors, different producers, different writers, they all want to make there own style and inevitably go away from source material even more and more, these characters are even more iconic than even James Bond cause they've been around over 60 years thats why CBM's have been so hard to do these chracter have stood the test the time through generations... They should try and get a protege of Nolan like his brother Jonah since his brother been there from the beginning and written the stories with him as well, sign Bale to multi picture deal if they can if they can get Jonah or another great director to work with Bale and throw money at hime then he might jump in and if they cant then leave it alone for a while then reboot...

To me, Batman is still coming into his own in these movies, and knowhere near the charactor he becomes in the comics.

The first film he gets introduced and gets his first big win, the 2nd he has to deal with the major scale onlaught brought on by the Joker... and then theres this 3rd film which no one knows anything about yet.

To me, it seems the events from the first and second films are only a couple of years apart, and, unless the 3rd is set like 10 years after the 2nd, it pretty much makes the reign of Batman very short.

Dont get me wrong, I really like the Nolan films so far, however, I am not adverse to a reboot after for the simple reason that the charactor of Batman has not yet been successfully created on screen. You read a Batman comic, theres not alot of Bruce Wayne in there (or at all at the moment, but I digress....) and he is hardly without the costume and being a right miserable bugga. To me, they have yet to bring to life, so to speak, the "moody" Batman, and until they do, I cant see how any crossover with Superman and the JLA would work!

Could you see Nolans Batman having a barny with Superman? Kicking seven shades out of him with kryptonite boxing gloves? Punching out the Green Lantern? I honestly couldnt! I'd like to!

Hopefully the 3rd will change my mind on this... fingers crossed....

Thats my 2 cents anyways... I better get on with my work now lol!
