The guys over at Batman-News have pointed out a story which originated at "Batman-On-Film" revealing that shooting may start on The Dark Knight Rises as soon as this week. Here is an excerpt from the report. Be sure to head on over to the site to read more.

They are doing a plate shot in a helicopter over New York City this week. Apparently, Chris Nolan wants to get the city with snow on the ground.

Apart from knowing a few of the characters that'll be in the movie, we still have very little idea about the plot of the third intallment in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise. What could he want shots like this for? Be sure to speculate in the usual place!

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

Dark Knight did take place in summer so this might be to show continuation of the seasons with snow going into winter.

Hopefully this is true.
Gotham looks grim & horrible most of the time so it'd be great to have a slightly different setting.

Or show continuation of the seasons like @MightyThor1 said

Should've been filmed here in the first place. Chicago looks too "neat and clean" to be Gotham.

omg....no Mr. Freeze

all that is being filmed are pick up shots setting the tone of the film.

all his films have had a theme to them, a tone of colors.

batman begins was more of a brown color, the film was more grittier and set around fall

the dark knight had a more bluish tone and was set more in i would say spring or summer

The dark knight rises sounds like it will have a white color them, maybe more pale and obviously take place during the winter transitioning to spring seasons

I kinda hope it's true 'cuz I'd like to see the weather conditions in Gotham be different for this movie. The past two movies seemed to take place during the summer.

He's re-shooting the flashback scene of his parents death.

But instead of an opera they're coming out of the Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark screaming.

and Bono shoots them.

Lee & GrimeKid@ Cool posters guys!

Snowy Gotham would be cool!:)

Hugo Strange, Talia Al Ghul, The Penguin, Rupert Thorne, Warren White aka The Great White Shark, Alberto Falcone or Black Mask as the third villain.

Bryan Cranston or Ralph Fiennes as Strange (The Mastermind behind Bane)

Eva Green as Talia (Other Mastermind behind Bane)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Alberto Falcone, Black Mask or The Great White Shark (Joe would be creepy as any of them)

Alfred Molina or Bob Hoskins as The Penguin (Penguin would just be [frick]ing ugly and vicious mob boss)

Ray Winstone or Brian Cox as Rupert Thorne (Gangster who takes Gotham´s criminal underworld on his control. Hires Bane to finish Bats, but Bane has his own plans)

@Batman1811
That would be interesting to have Nolan use the Holiday murderer, I could see him being the smaller villain for this movie (a la Zsasz in Begins and Scarecrow in TDK). Or he could just leave it at Alberto Falcone being the continuation of Gotham's ever-present mob for this film.
