Apparently, comic book movie fans aren't the only ones easily excited by speculative casting rumors. According to Huffington Post contributor 2morrowknight, several news sources picked up his blog about why
Stephen Colbert should play the Riddler in
Batman 3, including The Internet Movie Database (IMDB), Showhype, Daylife, Mahalo, WhoRepresents, Newsrunner, and the Twitter nation. Colbert's people even picked up the story and posted it on his own site.
In his original article, 2morrowknight justifies his choice as such:
The Riddler is not just any villain. As long as he can describe it in a riddle or puzzle, he views it as a crime worth committing. He doesn't kill his opponents when he has the upper hand. Like say, Jigsaw in the Saw movies, he has to put them in a deathtrap where he creates a life and death intellectual challenge they cannot possibly solve. And though Depp could do it, Stephen Colbert would give the role true justice.
The Riddler is intellectually curious, wickedly funny, and relentlessly creative -- all of the things I would associate with Stephen Colbert. Add in the usual debauchery, mischief and shenanigans and Colbert could really pull it off."
While it's extremely unlikely that Cobert would ever be chosen for a movie like this, he
is a self-avowed fan of comic books, so it's not completely out of the question.
