The Ringer (via Batman-News) has published a very interesting piece titled "Movies Aren’t Dead, but They’ll Never Be the Same" about the current state of the film industry, and in it, there's a potentially very concerning reveal about where things stand with The Batman. Ben Affleck has said he's working on the screenplay, but it sounds like it may be in a pretty sorry state if this story is to be believed.
According to American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis, he's heard from various executives that there are some serious issues with the movie. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. don't sound too concerned!
"[They] were just telling me that there are serious problems with the script. And that the executives I was having dinner with were complaining about people who work on the Batman movie. And they just said they went to the studio and they said, ‘Look, the script is … Here’s 30 things that are wrong with it that we can fix.’ And [the executives] said, ‘We don’t care. We don’t really care. The amount of money we’re going to make globally, I mean 70 percent of our audience is not going to be seeing this in English. And it doesn’t really matter, these things that you’re bringing up about the flaws of the script.’ So I do think global concerns play a big part in how movies, and what movies, are being made, obviously."
This may sound like cause for concern, but Affleck has said on multiple occasions that he's not ready to start shooting The Batman. Given his track record as a director and what happened with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the actor moving forward with a screenplay written by himself and Geoff Johns which doesn't work is hard to believe, but these comments still leave us with food for thought!
What do you guys think? Does this have you worried about The Batman or should we wait and see?
