THE BATMAN Blu-ray Release Date And Special Features Revealed; Deleted Scenes Will Have Director's Commentary

With The Batman set to hit HBO Max and Digital platforms on April 18, Warner Bros. has now announced that the DC Comics adaptation will arrive on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray on May 24.

There will be a lot of special features, all of which promise to take us behind-the-scenes of Matt Reeves' unique spin on Gotham City. As you can see below, we'll learn more about Colin Farrell's transformation into The Penguin, get a breakdown of that standout Batmobile sequence, and get more details on everything from Catwoman's introduction to the creation of Batman's Wingsuit.

Here's the full list of featurettes and special features:

  • Vengeance In The Making
  • Vengeance Meets Justice
  • The Batman: Genesis
  • Becoming Catwoman
  • Looking for Vengeance
  • Anatomy of The Car Chase
  • Anatomy of The Wingsuit
  • A Transformation: The Penguin
  • The Batmobile
  • Unpacking The Icons
  • Deleted Scenes with Director’s Commentary

Interestingly, while the deleted scenes will have commentary from Matt Reeves, there's no mention of one for the movie itself, which is going to disappoint many fans. While we don't currently have a specific list of deleted and extended scenes, that recently released confrontation between Batman and The Joker (Barry Keoghan) will no doubt be among them.

"Delivering the definitive take on the World’s Greatest Detective, The Batman is a sweeping, cinematic masterpiece that’s both DC’s best film and one of the most captivating, relentless, and unforgettable comic book movies ever made," we said in our review of the movie last year.

Are you excited to watch The Batman at home?

Speaking of blurays, did the American version of the NWH have any extended/deleted scenes?

Directors commentary I'm here for, with it was for the whole movie. This is sadly the feature mostly missing from Streamers and VOD releases. I remember loving that during the early DVD days, it also adds to the rewatchability.

Also have I really missed it all this time that there's a ? reflected in his eye!? Dam.

@UnderBelly - that and deleted scenes , bloopers , gag reel, behind scenes of movie streams and video on damned will never have and hd video quality in 4k as well.,

It’s only lazy stupid people who stream just want movie nothing else with spend 20.00 on movie to stream with no extra content to it may as well buy it on iTunes and dvd but then for people who stream also need Wi-Fi and electricity to watch movie and keep battery charged on phone.,

People buy movie some have option download it all they need is electricity no Wi-Fi required no need worry go camping some place with no Wi-Fi dead zone anywhere find plug there you go

I wasn't exactly a huge fan of this film. That doesn't mean it was bad by any stretch of the imagination. But I felt it was just... ok. But one thing I'm sure about, is this film is an absolute MASTER CLASS when it comes to cinematography. I can't say enough good things about the way this film was crafted visually. So inspirational. Expect a lot of copycats in the future. I can't wait to see the extra features on every aspect of the technical side.

@DarthOmega - Hey, I know it's not everyone's cup o' tea, but I can also appreciate someone who can view it through a technical lens.
My granddaughters (7 & 8 yrs old) are into all of the behind the scenes stuff about the movies they watch.
It was so funny sitting there watching Spiderman NWH & hearing this little 7 year old girl explain the editing in certain scenes. Priceless!

Nice. But I'm gonna revisit it in the cinema a couple more times before its run is done. What an exceptional film, probably my favorite from DC all-time.

@WakandanQueen - I think it takes the award for best superhero movie opening scene. That whole build up and voice-over gives chillllzzzz.

As a whole the movie was good enough though.

First time I watched it I was dozing off in the penguin car chase, and then in the ensuing Mayham of falcone getting shot. Just the other night I went to watch it again with some friends, somehow, as soon as I sat down, no that’s not true, as soon as I ran out of nachos, I knew I had made a mistake. There was no way I was going to make it through the whole movie. And I had to strain to make it through the penguin scene. Somehow my circadian rhythm‘s just knew I was on that part. And then I fell asleep way before Falcone got shot and woke up way after, and they were about to arrest the Riddler, and I told my friends I can’t do it, peace. My job keeps me tired, it sucks.

Can't wait, Matt Reeves has been so interesting in the press for this, doing long form in-depth interviews and industry podcasts. Anyone into sound or colour grading should check out the two eps of Dolby Image and Sound Lab podcast. Not for everyone but so interesting from am industey perspective. I hope the extra content is similarly in-depth.

Why tf is this so expensive digitally? I’ve never seen a single movie cost more than $20 and this is $29.99 for preorder. Hell I’ve gotten bundles cheaper than that, I ’ll have to add it to cheap charts and wait until it dips I guess

Can't wait to watch this till I unwittingly memorise every single line from beginning to end of the movie as I have done for every single cinematic iteration of Batman (George Clooney's inclusive)

I'm very interested in the Joker scene commentary, curious about their approach to filming it the way they did and what went into the absurd Joker make-up. What's this BS about only having commentary on the deleted scenes?
