It took a bit longer than expected, but Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is continuing to march its way towards being one of the top ten comic book movies ever made.
The film is currently sits in eleventh place, and has made over
$851 million worldwide, with
$319.5 million of that in North America. This puts it ahead of
Iron Man, Marvel's first entry into their Marvel Cinematic Universe, which made
$318.4 million domestically. To make it into the top ten, it will have to achieve at least
$336 million (which would be enough to march past Sam Raimi's
Spider-Man, which it already has done at the international box office).
In comparison to other Marvel films, BVS also surpassed
Captain America: The First Avenger and
Captain America: The Winter Soldier with ease. The film is also the highest-grossing Superman film of all time, though it is not expected to surpass
The Dark Knight Rises' overall domestic haul of
$449 million. Barring unexpected circumstances, the film will likely be third-highest-grossing DC Comics adaptation at both the domestic and worldwide box office, behind
The Dark Knight and
The Dark Knight Rises.
