BATMAN V SUPERMAN Storyboard Artist Talks Batman's 'Knightmare' and THE FLASH

The very divisive Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been out a few weeks now, and with it comes some tidbits about the grim future foretold by the Flash in Batman's foreboding 'Knightmare'.

One of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice's most notable scenes shows the Dark Knight dreaming of a desolate future ruled by Superman and his armada. While the significance of Batman's "dream" is still a mystery, Dawn Of Justice's storyboard artist Jay Oliva (who also directed the animated Flashpoint film) surmises that this reverie indicates dark days ahead in the future of the DCEU.

"OK, you've watched The Flashpoint Paradox, my movie, right? In the DC Universe in the comics, there's this thing where – it's a little different than the Back To The Future thing where you can go back in time and change your threads and stuff − but in DC, when you go back in time, you create this kind of Time Boom kind of thing where lots of things change," he stated in a recent Hall Of Justice Podcast.

"I don't know if this is Zack's thinking, but this is mine: what if that isn't a dream sequence? What if what you saw was a Time Boom, a latent memory from the future when Flash comes back? If you look at the cut, he doesn't go to sleep. He's waiting for the [Lexcorp file decryption] and suddenly this [Knightmare sequence] comes in, and he's jogged out of it seeing his own death. And what does he see? He sees Flash. And if you're a DC fan, you know what's happening. You know that Flash going back in time, that memory is now coming back to him... mind you, it's jumbled."

The Flash's message was rather cryptic, hinting that he appeared "too soon", and that "Lois Lane is the key". The dialog certainly suggests some influence from both the Flashpoint storyline and the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game. What are your predictions for the future of the DCEU? Do you think this cene will come into play in a future Justice League film?

Probably the best scene in the movie. If WB decides to go this route with the DCU, I'm excited. Imagine. Justice League Pt 1 ends with Darkseid taking over Earth and Pt 2 begins months later and the world is like this.

This all just seems like putting the cart before the horse.

InJustice works because we've lived with the Justice League for decades.

All the big stories work because they shake up the status quo.

BvS doesn't even bother introducing the status quo before jumping to major events like InJustice suggestion or the Death of Superman. These are not earned.

It's like if Tony Stark had his visions of Thanos in Iron Man 2. It just wouldn't make sense and would foreshadow a major disruptive event waaaaaaay before the Avengers even assembled.

God damn, this script....and Snyder...

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - I couldn't put my finger on why everything felt off until now, you [frick]ing nailed it man. I love the atmosphere and the feel of Justice League, and just how they all interact with one another. I want a movie (or multiple movies) featuring that, before jumping to Darkseid, Death of Superman, or other huge events. I feel like them going straight to big events may be to catch up with Marvel since DC got a late start, but slowing down and taking their time would do them good.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - Frakin A, man. It's just the whole "everyone's a winner" syndrome striking, again. These new cats don't want to earn shite. They just expect you to be happy that Batman and Superman are in a film at the same time, just like Alien vs. Predator. No need for it to be coherent.
