According to industry analysts like Boxofficemojo.com, boxoffice.com and The Hollywood Reporter, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is expected to remain the #1 North American movie this weekend. Earlier this week, there were rumblings that Melissa McCarthy's The Boss might prematurely dethrone WB' s superhero drama but unfavorable reviews from film critics appear to have diminished the comedy's box office outlook.
Dawn of Justice is expected to bring in $22-28 million domestically, while The Boss is expected to gross roughly $20 million. On the international front, Dawn of Justice is expected to collect somewhere in the neighborhood of $35 million. With Zack Snyder's second DCEU film currently sitting at $720.8 million worldwid, unless the film exceeds estimates, it's unlikely that Batman v Superman passes the $800 million mark this weekend. However, it should clear that benchmark by the middle of next week. The question then becomes how long will it take the film to reach $900 million and whether it has a shot to reach $1 billion?
Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis's most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before.
Zack Snyder directs from a script written by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio. The film stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Holly Hunter.
