Those of you that aren’t familiar with the British sitcom “The IT Crowd”, probably best know Richard Ayoade as that guy that was sitting next to Jesse Eisenberg during the much circulated Total Film interview where he was asked who he liked more, Superman or Batman.
Richard Ayoade is in fact a very promising writer/director, having been nominated for a BAFTA for his 2010 directorial debut “Submarine”.His sophomore film entitled “The Double” is about a shy and lonely young man named Simon James, meets James Simon, a young man that looks identical to Simon James, but has the complete opposite personality.
The movie is scheduled for a May 9th release in the US, and stars Jesse Eisenberg in the dual roles of Simon James, and James Simon.
While promoting the movie during an interview with Metro UK, the publication asked Ayoade whether he thinks Jesse will make a good Lex Luthor, to which he responded: “He’s always good so I think he’ll be good in it. In The Double, he’s shown he can be really sinister and frightening as well as being likeable, being the person you want to follow. And he’s not one of those actors afflicted by personal vanity and wanting to actually be sympathetic. He just does what feels right for the character he’s playing.” When asked whether he would accept role in “Batman vs. Superman”, he responded “I can’t imagine there’d be a suitable role for me unless they want the role of Nasal Man.”
