Yes, he's technically an anti-hero, I don't really care. The Rock has long been attached to play the chain-swinging, motorcycle-riding alien mercenary. Some have dismissed this choice as Johnson has said the character will be 'extremely complex', but I think the writing team at Warner Bros could flesh out this character a bit more for the big screen. This is a casting choice that the majority of fans would agree is good, so I think this is a viable option.
Jonn Jonzz is a character who may or may not make an appearnce in the eventual
Justice League film, but the casting of Cyborg makes that seem unlikely. Nevertheless, many fans have The Rock pinned down as the Martian hero. Personally, I think this role should be left to Idris Elba, but that's just my opinion. I think this is unlikely as the casting of Cyborg gives the impression that they are basing their budding universe off the New 52 reboot, instead of the classic lineup.
Finally, I can't round off the heroes without mentioning the ridiculous possibilty he could be playing:
Aquman
I honestly can't see why people think this is a good casting choice- as much as I think The Rock is long overdue a superhero role, he just isn't the right fit for Arthur Curry. I don't think him being a different race is an issue, but the fact that Aquaman is blonde and Johnson would look frankly ridiculous in a blonde wig makes me pause. Also, I don't think The Rock would be able to pull off the King of Atlantis. My choice for this part would be Pacific Rim's Charlie Hunman, but again that's just my opinion.
Now onto the villains. Of course I have to start with the role most believe he was born to play:
Black Adam
There is no disputing that Dwayne Johnson would be perfect for this role. He's got the looks, the build, the personality, the acting chops.... he
is Black Adam. But as the Shazam movie was postponed after the success of
Man Of Steel, it seems unlikely that Black Adam will be making his way to the big screen anytime soon.
As well as Black Adam, some have suggested that he could portray:
Doomsday
I don;t think this is a viable option for a few reasons:
1. Introducing Doomsday pretty much guarentees they're doing the Death of Superman, and it is far too soon to do that story in the movies.
2. Johnson has said that the character will be 'extremely complex', and Doomsday is pretty much the most one-dimensional baddie in Supes' rogues gallery.
3. Doomsday has been portrayed before, in
Smallville.
So, who do you think The Rock should play? Are there choices that you feel I've missed out? Let me know in the comments below!
