Margot Robbie Confirms That Jared Leto Won't Appear As The Joker In BIRDS OF PREY

We had previously heard that Jared Leto would not reprise the role of Joker for Birds of Prey, but there was speculation that he could make a surprise cameo appearance. Now, Margot Robbie has weighed in.

We'd been told from the beginning that Jared Leto would not be reprising his Suicide Squad role as The Joker for Birds of Prey, but when the character was spotted on set, speculation went into overdrive that the actor may have filmed a cameo scene for the movie.

Now, star Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) has confirmed that Leto will definitely not appear as The Clown Prince of Crime in the Cathy Yan-directed movie.

During a new interview with Variety, the highly in-demand actress revealed that "Leto’s incarnation of the character doesn’t appear, not even as a cameo." She also comments on Joaquin Phoenix's take on the iconic DC Comics villain ("[he] did a phenomenal job."), but makes it clear that Birds of Prey will be a very different film - despite the R-rating.

“I feel like the ‘Joker’ film was much more grounded," she says. "Ours is different. It’s heightened.”

Those set snaps obviously implied that someone will be filling in for Leto as The Joker (unless that scene winds up being cut), but it now seems clear that the actor is done with the role.

Do you think Warner Bros. will eventually recast, or will the studio attempt to get Phoenix to step in to the main DC Films Universe after the success of Todd Philips' Joker? Let us know in the comments, and check out some shots from Robbie's Variety photoshoot below.

That became pretty obvious when he was cast as Morbius.

Leto is a good actor, but his Joker was so under used, he was just pointless in Suicide Squad, should have just kept him for the Harley flashbacks and include a comic accurate relationship. What they showed of him sucked.

for the next Joker, get Gaspard Ulliel

@dracula - I can see it visually but I'm just going from what I've seen from him in Hannibal Rising....I'll list say I'm not too fond of that movie.

@MrCamw1 - The movie isn't great, but he was a great choice for a young Hannibal Lector. Seriously underrated actor, plus he is in the right age group to play opposite to Robert Pattinson

@dracula - interesting. I'll have to watch something else hes in then cause Rising is always the first thing I think of when I see this guy.

I thought Leto was decent as Joker, the script just let him down completely. I think he could have delivered a great take with better material.

OT:

Collider just got rid of most of its shows. Haven’t watched for a while but damn.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - If they want to follow up Joker, instead of Joker 2, they should make Arthur a supporting character and do Harley.

Maybe with not-horrible writing and design his character might've been good. But in this reality he's going down as one of the big misunderstandings of the DCEU alongside Affleck's Batman and Cavill's Superman.

I guess this film got one thing right.

But will Margot Robbie show up as Harley Quinn? The marketing makes it difficult to tell.
