BLACK ADAM: Warner Bros. Said To Be Looking For A "Sam Rockwell-Type" To Play Doctor Fate In The DC Movie

The Black Adam cast is quickly beginning to come together, and it's now said that the movie is looking to cast a "Sam Rockwell-type" to take on the role of Justice Society member, Doctor Fate...

The Illuminerdi is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to cast an actor in their 30s to take on the role of Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate in Black Adam. The site explains that this version of the character is described as a "kind academic" and a "terrifying force of nature who sounds and acts totally different."

Interestingly, the relationship between Nelson and Doctor Fate is compared to Jekyll and Hyde, with the DC Extended Universe's version of the hero boasting "powerful telepathic and telekinetic abilities, as well as the power to slow time and alter reality itself." It's also revealed that the hope is to find an actor along the lines of Iron Man 2 star Sam Rockwell.

Rockwell is obviously 51, but chances are this casting call is just referring to the sort of characters Rockwell has played in the past. The actor is an expert at finding the right balance between serious and comedic roles, and it sounds like Kent will have a pretty unique, dynamic personality.

It sounds like the plan is for a Caucasian actor to take on the role in Black Adam too.

Doctor Fate is a superhero with a tonne of potential in the DCEU moving forward, and there's no reason he couldn't take on a leading role in a solo outing. If nothing else, it's easy enough to imagine him being the focal point of a future Justice Society movie in the not too distant future.

We'll keep you updated.

Unless he's too busy, or he's too expensive (which I don't think either is the case) JUST HIRE SAM ROCKWELL.

Stop it with these "types" lol.

@KWilly - Well, they did offer Black Mask to Sam Rockwell and he declined. Ewan ended up giving a very Sam Rockwell-esque performance anyways, so I guess it didn't matter that much.

@tmp3 - I think having Ewan McGregor do it paid off far better than if they had Rockwell. Black Mask, although being pretty much a new character, was by far my favorite part of Birds of Prey

@tmp3 - If he just flatout rejects the role, then that's fine obviously lol

These types are [frick]ing FUNNY AS [frick]. They really be like “we need a Kinnaman-type” in the development meeting

@BlackBeltJones - I really find them hilarious, lol.

There are SOME that make sense when there are sort of similar-looking actors, like if you said Charlie Hunnam type, I'd raise Garrett Hedlund.

Uhhh... idk about this one. I'm not a huge Dr. Fate-head, but based on all the appearances I've seen of him he feels like he'd be more serious than Sam Rockwell's usual acting style. Also thought that they'd go for someone Middle Eastern for this, based on how diverse the cast's been so far, but I guess not.

@BlackBeltJones - Holy shit man that'd own soooo hard. Great actor, and he was the best part of the Sandman audio series too as the Corinthian.

@BlackBeltJones - Riz Ahmed would be a great choice. Still wanna see his Mogul Mowgli movie too

@tmp3 - he has a great voice. That voice under the helmet would be so dope.

@BlackBeltJones - Yeah man, for real. My top choice was Rami Malek, since he can pull of intimidating pretty well based on Mr. Robot and the footage for Bond, but after Bond & his Oscar I feel like his asking price might be too high for a tertiary role like this.
Man, now I'm gonna be bummed when Riz isn't cast lmao.

@bkmeijer - I've heard he's great in both that and Sound of Metal. He's so good in his smaller work, it's a shame that both Rogue One and Venom gave him nothing to do

I think one white guy would be allowed.

@Battabing - Way to miss the point. But then again, considering who I'm talking to, not really surprising tbh

@tmp3 - I liked his character in Rogue One, but Venom heavily under utilized him indeed. And Sound of Metal does sound interesting
