The Illuminerdi is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to cast an actor in their 30s to take on the role of Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate in Black Adam. The site explains that this version of the character is described as a "kind academic" and a "terrifying force of nature who sounds and acts totally different."
Interestingly, the relationship between Nelson and Doctor Fate is compared to Jekyll and Hyde, with the DC Extended Universe's version of the hero boasting "powerful telepathic and telekinetic abilities, as well as the power to slow time and alter reality itself." It's also revealed that the hope is to find an actor along the lines of Iron Man 2 star Sam Rockwell.
Rockwell is obviously 51, but chances are this casting call is just referring to the sort of characters Rockwell has played in the past. The actor is an expert at finding the right balance between serious and comedic roles, and it sounds like Kent will have a pretty unique, dynamic personality.
It sounds like the plan is for a Caucasian actor to take on the role in Black Adam too.
Doctor Fate is a superhero with a tonne of potential in the DCEU moving forward, and there's no reason he couldn't take on a leading role in a solo outing. If nothing else, it's easy enough to imagine him being the focal point of a future Justice Society movie in the not too distant future.
We'll keep you updated.
