Black Panther hasn't been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for very long, but it's already hard to imagine what it would be like without him. After making an impact in Captain America: Civil War, the hero made an unbelievable cultural impact with the Oscar-nominated Black Panther

To celebrate the critically acclaimed movie, Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park has shared some early mask designs from both those releases (and for not only T'Challa, but T'Chaka as well).

A closer look at each of these can be seen by scrolling through the Instagram post below, and it's certainly interesting to discover what might have been. Some are vastly different to what ended up on screen, while others quite obviously pay homage to the source material in exciting ways.

The next Black Panther movie is scheduled for 2022, and Ryan Coogler will be back at the helm.

Which of them is your favourite?

Black Panther's costume is as simple as you can get... Yet it looks so badass in both the comics and movies.

@FinnishDude - I love the Christopher Priest era suit! I remember seeing this cover for the first time as a kid and thinking that that was the coolest superhero I had ever seen:

I hope that they are able to adapt it faithfully onscreen some day.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Same. I didn't even know who Black Panther was at the time (I was mostly a Spider-Man fan but my access to comics was pretty limited at the time), but being absolutely mindblown by that cover and that costume.

dragon316 - 6/10/2020, 1:41 PM
@Superspecialawesomeguy - you wouldn’t see his ears with big goofy cape not every costume from books look good in movies captain America didn’t wear spandex pirate gloves and boots in movies no complaints about that

FinnishDude - 6/10/2020, 1:51 PM
@Superspecialawesomeguy - I could see T'Challa wearing a cape during a big ceremony or the like in a future movie as a nod to that costume.

@FinnishDude - I like silver age and urban jungle look of his costume he doesn’t look right with cape it does nothing for him Batman uses and utilizes it for his potential black panther doesn’t glide down, doesn’t his cape to stop acid bein* thrown at him I don’t think have classic look black panther costumes in books to know what cape is used for to me impractical for black panther it gets in way for him do his acrobatic moves , dead jump and flips around don’t see him wearing cape same with Spider-Man can be said

@dragon316 - Well it would most likely be somewhat redesigned to fit the mcu aesthetic anyway so I don't see it being too much of an issue.

P.S I think the big goofy cape is lower than his ears lol

Superspecialawesomeguy - 6/10/2020, 1:59 PM
@dragon316 - But it does make him look rather regal...y'know like a king?
Superspecialawesomeguy
Superspecialawesomeguy - 6/10/2020, 2:00 PM
@FinnishDude - Yeah I could imagine him wearing something like that during a royal function.
FinnishDude
FinnishDude - 6/10/2020, 2:10 PM
@dragon316 - I can live with or without BP's cape, but it does serve an aesthetical function. T'Challa isn't a superhero in the more traditional "goes on patrols in a city looking for random crime" - sense (although, I'm fully aware that there are story-arcs where he does that), rather he is more of a warrior king defending his people. And what visual element makes one think of royalties?

Capes.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - I think the cape and collar would be awesome. Not so high up collar but with short cape.

dragon316
dragon316 - 6/10/2020, 1:48 PM
@blackandyellow - not every comic costume from books transitions well in movies fans need get in there heads movies of marvel and dc are based on real life looks of characters captain America doesn’t wear spandex and pirate gloves and boots in end game that will look stupid goofy and laughable , Batman no complaints about Keaton costume wear stupid looking underwear over his leather costume that will less menacing and laghuable , taskmaster same with him, don’t see falcon wear spandex no one complaints about him, get over stupid looking in realistic cape for black panther get over unrealistic stupid looking goofy laghuable mask Logan should wear in movie if he makes comeback move on,.
DaHyro
DaHyro - 6/10/2020, 4:44 PM
@dragon316 - it’s not THAT big a deal man. not every comic design could work, but adding a cape to Black Panther totally would. Thor wears a cape and he looks fine.
