BLACK PANTHER Star Chadwick Boseman Refers To His Take On T'Challa As An Anti-Hero
Will the solo Black Panther movie introduce the first real anti-hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? That's what Chadwick Boseman suggested during a recent Toronto Film Festival interview...
The Black Panther that was introduced in Captain America: Civil War was definitely not your average Avenger. Over the course of the movie he ruthlessly pursued the man he thought responsible for his father's death, fully intending to dole out some equally lethal retribution. In the end he spares Zemo's life, however, seemingly stepping off the dark path he'd started down - but from the sounds of things, the King of Wakanda hasn't lost his edge completely.
EW caught up with Chadwick Boseman at the TIFF, where the actor is promoting Message from the King (no, not that king), and he evidently views this big-screen incarnation of T'Challa as a pretty dark character indeed. “This is an anti-hero, sort of,” Boseman told the site. “I feel like although he is a superhero, he is a super anti-hero.”
Though often misapplied, the term anti-hero is usually associated with the likes of Breaking Bad's Walter White or Tony Soprano, and while it's hard to imagine Panther flirting with outright villainy, this does hint at some very interesting developments for Ryan Coogler's movie.
Black Panther is set to his theaters in 2018.
